(Baonghean.vn) - Carrying out a volunteer campaign in Pha Danh commune (Ky Son district), the Vinh University student volunteer team has implemented many activities that are meaningful and practical for the local community.

Pha Danh commune has 10 villages and is home to three ethnic groups: Thai, Khmu, and Kinh. Due to the complex mountainous terrain, transportation and the economic lives of the people here remain challenging.

To assist the local people during this period, 19 students from the History Department and the Political Education Department of Vinh University carried out their duties in the locality for 3 weeks from July 3rd to 21st.

Over the past few days, the student volunteer team has coordinated with the youth union and local people to trek through the forest and open a road from the commune center to Xop Nhuc village - the most remote village in Pha Danh commune.

Despite the challenging working conditions, involving traveling nearly 10 km, climbing steep slopes, crossing Pha Danh mountain, digging up trees, and moving rocks with numerous dangers such as falling rocks, bee stings, and slips, the volunteer team, with the proactive spirit of youth, coordinated well with the local authorities to complete the task.

After many days of working together and sharing simple meals, spread on leaves as makeshift tables, with the youth union branches of Pha Danh commune and the people of Xop Nhuc and Keo Luc 1 villages in the forest, the new road from the center to Xop Nhuc village, nearly 7 km long, has been completed.

Previously, people in this village had to climb mountains and descend into valleys to reach the town center, but now there is a road along the mountainside, making it accessible by motorbike. The long-awaited dream of the people of Xop Nhuc has come true.

Sharing his joy with the villagers, Tran Duc Anh, a student from class 56A, Department of Political Education, said: “Building the road to Xop Nhuc village was the most arduous jungle trek I’ve ever undertaken. Although tiring and difficult, it was also enjoyable. These days of labor not only helped the villagers have a new road to travel on, but also helped us grow stronger in willpower and determination.”

Besides building and repairing inter-village and intra-village roads, the student volunteer team also helps people with farming, cleans up the environment, organizes summer activities for teenagers, visits and gives gifts to families in need, and participates in cultural exchanges with the local people.

Mr. Luong Van Tac, Secretary of the Pha Danh Commune Youth Union, commented: “It can be said that, until now, this is one of the most hardworking volunteer teams in the locality, but it has brought about the most practical results. Local officials and villagers alike welcome the team's work ethic, acknowledging their efforts and dedication in helping the people overcome difficulties and creating a new atmosphere for the village.”
