Jannik Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the 2026 Rome Masters, officially setting a record of 32 consecutive wins in the ATP Masters 1000 series.

World number one Jannik Sinner continued his dominant form by defeating Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Rome Masters. This victory not only secured the Italian star a place in the semifinals but also set a new historical milestone, surpassing the unprecedented record previously held by Novak Djokovic.

Andrey Rublev dominated after two sets.

Entering the quarter-final with high confidence, Sinner quickly imposed his style of play on his opponent. In the very first set, the home player broke Rublev's serve early on. With powerful shots from the baseline and sharp shot control, Sinner secured another break in the seventh game to close out the set with a decisive 6-2 victory after just 38 minutes of play.

In the second set, the scenario didn't change much, with the world number one continuing to break his opponent's serve in games 1 and 5 to take a 4-1 lead. Although Andrey Rublev tried to fight back and managed to break once at the end of the set, Sinner's composure prevailed at the right moment. He successfully held his remaining service games to finish the match after 1 hour and 32 minutes.

Breaking Novak Djokovic's historic record.

The biggest highlight of Sinner's late-night victory on May 14th was that he officially extended his winning streak at Masters 1000 tournaments to 32 matches. This achievement allowed the 24-year-old to surpass the record of 31 consecutive wins set by legend Novak Djokovic in 2011.

Sinner's impressive run began at the Paris Masters late last year. Since then, he has clinched titles at Indian Wells, the Miami Open, the Monte Carlo Masters, and the Madrid Open. Notably, in this 32-match winning streak, Sinner only lost two sets. He is also the first player since Roger Federer (in 2017) to complete a "Sunshine Double," winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season.

Ambition to complete Career Golden Masters

At this year's Rome Masters, Jannik Sinner is aiming for his sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title. If he wins in the Italian capital, he will become only the second player in history, after Novak Djokovic, to complete the "Career Golden Masters" collection by winning all nine Masters 1000 tournaments since the series was established in 1990.

Furthermore, home fans are hoping Sinner will end his nearly half-century title drought. If successful, he would be the first Italian male tennis player to win the Rome Open since the legendary Adriano Panatta in 1976. With his outstanding consistent performance and strong mentality, Sinner is showing himself to be the number one contender for the championship this year.
