Qualcomm has officially launched the Snapdragon X2 Plus chip series, available in both 6-core and 10-core versions, featuring the 3rd generation Oryon architecture to boost AI performance by up to 78% and offer superior power efficiency.

At CES 2026, Qualcomm once again asserted its position in the laptop market by launching the Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. This is a strategic move to increase pressure on traditional CPU manufacturers by providing powerful performance in an energy-efficient design, optimized for the next generation of thin and light laptops.

Third-generation Oryon processor hierarchy and architecture

Qualcomm has positioned the new Snapdragon X2 Plus series in a lower segment compared to the flagship Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme series, which launched in September 2025. However, this chipset still inherits the core technologies from its predecessors, including the third-generation Oryon CPU architecture.

Qualcomm offers two main variants for this chip line:

  • 10-core version (X2P-64-100):Combining 6 high-performance Prime cores and 4 Performance cores.
  • 6-core version (X2P-42-100):Completely reliant on Prime cores, with maximum clock speeds exceeding 4GHz.

The difference between the two versions lies in the cache size and GPU clock speed. Despite having different core counts, both are designed to maintain stable performance over the long term rather than focusing solely on instantaneous power, a crucial factor for office users and content creators.

A leap forward in Adreno graphics and NPU artificial intelligence.

In terms of graphics capabilities, the Snapdragon X2 Plus integrates the Adreno X2-45 GPU, supporting the most advanced graphics standards currently available, such as DirectX 12.2 Ultimate and Vulkan 1.4. According to Qualcomm, the iGPU on the 10-core chip is approximately 29% faster in the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test compared to its predecessor. For the 6-core version, GPU performance even recorded an impressive growth of up to 39%.

In particular, the artificial intelligence (AI) processing capability is the biggest highlight of this chip series. The upgraded NPU shows an increase in AI performance of up to 78% compared to the previous generation. This allows laptops equipped with Snapdragon X2 Plus to smoothly handle complex AI tasks, from image and video processing to intelligent virtual assistants running directly on the device.

Energy efficiency: A direct challenge to the x86 architecture.

Qualcomm continues to emphasize the advantages of ARM architecture over traditional x86 competitors. Based on data from Geekbench 6.5, the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus processor is approximately 3.5 times faster than the Intel Core Ultra 7 265U when operating at the same power consumption level.

More notably, Qualcomm stated that Intel's processor requires 4.6 times more power to achieve the Snapdragon X2 Plus's peak performance. This difference not only helps the device run cooler but also significantly extends battery life for mobile users.

Connectivity and release date

Besides its computing power, the Snapdragon X2 Plus also boasts a robust connectivity ecosystem including: support for up to 128GB of LPDDR5x RAM, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and support for up to three external 4K displays. The first commercial laptops using the Snapdragon X2 Plus chipset are expected to officially arrive on the market in the first half of 2026, promising to change the landscape of the mid-range and high-end laptop segments.
