(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of August 24, VPF held an online meeting with 27 professional football clubs. The main content of the meeting was to stop the V-League, First Division and National Cup. However, what fans are interested in is whether there will be a champion and whether there will be a relegation or not, which is still undecided.

After VFF proposed to consider canceling the 2021 season,27 V-League teamsand the First Division discussed this issue in an online meeting this afternoon (August 24). All 27 teams agreed to end the Vietnamese professional football season early due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the national team's match schedule.

This is considered a historic decision for Vietnamese football. Previously, VPF decided to postpone the season to February 2022, but the teams did not agree because they would have to bear a huge cost during the long period of not playing.

However, the meeting between VPF and the clubs did not discuss whether to award the championship trophy to HAGL (the team currently ranked first in the 2021 V-League rankings) or whether the team currently at the bottom of the 2021 V-League rankings (SLNA) will be relegated or not.

However, some clubs also expressed their support for not counting championship and relegation. Quang Nam Club representative proposed giving the right to participate in AFC Champions League to HAGL, Viettel and Hanoi FC to participate in AFC Cup.

A representative of another V-League club added that it is necessary to decide whether the tournament will be canceled or not so that the teams can carry out work related to player contracts, sponsors, etc. After that, how to choose the champion team, whether there will be a relegation team or not will be discussed in another meeting.

Currently, all football teams have released their camps and sent their players back to their families. To cut costs, many clubs have begun to terminate contracts with players, especially foreign players.

As for SLNA, they certainly won't be relegated because they are receiving a large investment after getting a new sponsor. SLNA is currently the team at the bottom of the V.League table. SLNA's General Director Truong Manh Linh recently announced: "We will not agree to cancel the tournament and be relegated. We still have many opportunities and SLNA is confident of staying in the league if we continue playing."

At this time, the Nghe An team has not yet determined its fate and is still waiting for the final decision from VFF.
