The number of fireworks seized by Nghe An police during the Lunar New Year of the Pig accounted for more than one-third of the total nationwide.

On February 19th, in an interview with a reporter from Nghe An Newspaper, Colonel Nguyen Huu Cau, Director of the Nghe An Provincial Police, stated that the unit had just concluded a campaign to intensify efforts to combat and suppress crime and ensure security and order before, during, and after the Lunar New Year of the Pig. This campaign lasted three months, from November 15th, 2018 to February 15th, 2019.

However, according to Colonel Cau, prior to that, starting in August 2018, the Nghe An Provincial Police had proactively advised and directed the issuance of a plan to implement measures to prevent and combat violations related to fireworks before, during, and after Tet (two months before the Ministry of Public Security issued its directive). In addition, the Nghe An Provincial Police had also implemented plans to launch a high-intensity campaign to ensure traffic safety and order; and to combat illegal lending activities… prior to that.

During the peak period, Nghe An police seized 7.3 tons of fireworks, while the national figure was 20 tons.

During the three-month intensive campaign, the Nghe An Provincial Police discovered and arrested 2,469 cases involving 3,754 individuals for crimes and violations of social order and safety laws. Of these, 251 cases of crimes against social order occurred throughout the province, a decrease of 12 cases compared to the same period last year and a decrease of 14 cases compared to the previous three months. 319 cases were investigated and solved, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of 362 individuals involved in social order crimes. Of these, 218 out of 251 cases were investigated and clarified, achieving a rate of 86.9%, while the provincial police's annual average rate is 82-83%.

Regarding fireworks, the head of the Nghe An Provincial Police said that during the peak period, the unit discovered and arrested 700 cases involving 824 individuals for the illegal production, trading, transportation, storage, and use of fireworks, and confiscated 7.3 tons of various types of fireworks. The amount of fireworks seized in Nghe An accounted for 36.5% of the total seized nationwide during this peak period (the whole country seized 20 tons). Notably, in some cases, the police seized nearly half a ton of fireworks, transported in containers from the border.

Regarding drug-related crimes, during the peak period, Nghe An Provincial Police arrested 352 cases involving 399 individuals and seized nearly 70 kilograms of various types of drugs. This included dismantling many large-scale, transnational drug trafficking and transportation rings. For example, Vinh City Police, in coordination with PA06 Department, dismantled Case 118H, arresting 3 individuals and seizing 2 blocks of heroin, 1.3 kg of methamphetamine, 8,000 synthetic drug pills, and one firearm; Vinh City Police, in coordination with Nam Dan District Police, dismantled Case 128M, arresting 1 individual and seizing 3 blocks of heroin and 14,000 synthetic drug pills; PC04 Department and Thanh Chuong District Police, in coordination with PA06 and PA02, dismantled Case 118H, arresting 1 individual and seizing 8 blocks of heroin, 4 kg of methamphetamine, and 3,000 synthetic drug pills…

With outstanding achievements, the Nghe An Provincial Police Department was commended by the Ministry of Public Security in all three reports on the situation and results of the intensified crime crackdown during the 2019 Lunar New Year, totaling 31 commendations. In addition, 20 collectives and 2 individuals received awards. Furthermore, the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee also awarded commendations to 25 collectives and numerous individuals.
