Episode 8 of the Rookie All-Round program concluded with a dramatic and disappointing result. Despite two convincing victories earlier, the Rookie Team unexpectedly lost in the Vocal competition with their performance of "Crying with You" by an incredibly close margin.
Specifically, the performance only scored 666 points, equivalent to 99.6% of the target of 669 points, lacking exactly 3 votes to pass the challenge. This difference of only 0.4% pushed the entire team into danger, resulting in one member being eliminated from the competition.
The producer of SOOBIN was overwhelmed with emotion.
This result left music producer SOOBIN overcome with emotion. He broke down in tears and admitted that it felt "like a knife cutting through my heart" having to accept defeat along with his students.
"It was like a rollercoaster, going up and then down. It gave SOOBIN a feeling of happiness seeing the kids united... But today, before the joy could last long, I had to face the result of failure," SOOBIN shared with tears in his eyes.
From hope to disappointment
Previously, the team had delivered spectacularly successful performances. Their performance of "Real Talk" achieved 113.1% of the milestone, successfully rescuing three members who were frozen out: Thai Le Minh Hieu, Wonbi, and minhtin. Following this success, their performance of "Broken Mirror, Mending" – a new composition combining the pentatonic scale of Vietnamese folk music with modern musical trends – also excelled, surpassing the challenge with 120.3% of the points, unlocking two official debut spots.
SOOBIN expressed particular pride in this musical direction, hoping that the newcomers would be a generation of young artists who "preserve and develop the essence of traditional culture."
The first farewell and the increasing pressure.
Based on the combined individual scores from the three performance rounds, rookie minhtin (Do Minh Tan) had the lowest score and was eliminated. Minhtin's departure came as a shock and brought many tears to the entire team.
The harshness of the program didn't stop there, as Ho Dong Quan (ranked 9th) and Swan Nguyen (ranked 10th) were the next two members to be frozen out, not allowed to perform in Performance 4. Facing the loss of members, SOOBIN warned the remaining rookies: "The program will become increasingly harsh. You can't be complacent and think you're safe forever. Anyone can fall into a dangerous position, so you have to try much harder."
