The box office revenue for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is still skyrocketing, and it has the potential to dethrone "Avatar" as the highest-grossing film of all time.

Released just three weeks ago, the seventh installment of the popular "Star Wars" series, "The Force Awakens," has been unrivaled at box offices both domestically and internationally. Over the past weekend, the film grossed $88.3 million in North America alone, bringing its total box office revenue in that region to $740.4 million. "Star Wars 7" is on track to overtake "Avatar" (which has earned $760.5 million) as the highest-grossing film in North America.

The box office revenue for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is skyrocketing.

On the global box office charts, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has pushed “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2” down to 7th place, securing 6th place on the list of highest-grossing films of all time, behind “Avatar”, “Titanic”, “Jurassic World”, “Fast & Furious 7”, and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with $1.5 billion. Next week, the film will be released in China – the world's second-largest film market. If it receives a warm reception from Chinese audiences, the film promises to break “Avatar”'s record of $2.8 billion.

"Avatar" is currently the highest-grossing film of all time with a revenue of $2.8 billion.

Although “Star Wars 7” is dominating the box office, several films are still drawing fans to theaters and generating good profits. The comedy “Daddy's Home” remains the runner-up on the North American box office charts after two weeks in release. This past week, “Daddy's Home” grossed $29 million, bringing its total domestic revenue to $93.7 million. The film marks the reunion of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg since “The Other Guys” in 2010, telling the story of a amicable radio executive striving to be the best stepfather to his wife's two children.

Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" ranked third, grossing $16.2 million. Fourth place went to "Sisters," starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, which earned $12.6 million. The remaining spots in the top 10 highest-grossing films in North America were occupied by "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip" ($11.8 million), "Joy" ($10.4 million), "The Big Short" ($9 million), "Concussion" ($8 million), "Point Break" ($6.85 million), and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" ($4.6 million).
