Using digital technology in journalism has become a matter of survival for the press.
This was the statement made by the Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Nguyen Duc Loi, at the conference "High-quality journalism in the context of digital transformation to meet the new requirements of the National Journalism Award Regulations and to promote sustainable development tasks in the Central and Central Highlands regions," held on the morning of November 5th in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen province.
The conference was attended by delegates from the following agencies: the Government Office; the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization; representatives of non-governmental organizations; the Ministry of Interior; leaders of Phu Yen province; as well as leaders and the Office of the Journalists Association, and representatives of newspapers and radio stations from the Central and Central Highlands provinces.
Comrades Nguyen Duc Loi – Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Tran Trong Dung – Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; and Pham Doan Anh Kiet – Vice President in charge of the Phu Yen Journalists Association, chaired the conference.
In his opening remarks at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi shared: After nearly four years of implementation, the Program to support high-quality journalistic works at all levels of journalists' associations in the period 2021-2025 has achieved many successes in supporting journalists and the development of Vietnamese journalism.
Specifically, over the three years (2021-2023), the State budget allocated 11.46 billion VND to support high-quality journalistic works at the central level, assisting nearly 4,000 authors. Support for local Journalists' Associations nationwide totaled 27.7 billion VND, resulting in the collection of thousands of high-quality journalistic works.
Since 2024, the National Press Awards Council has revised and refined the Awards Regulations. This includes adding two new award categories: Print Magazine and Electronic Magazine Awards; and Digital Journalism Product and Creative Media Project Awards.
This addition proactively adheres to the Party's new viewpoints and policies, the General Secretary's directives, aligns with the strategy issued by the Prime Minister, and is consistent with the current realities and general development trends of the press and media.
At the conference, delegates also heard from representatives of the Professional Affairs Department of the Vietnam Journalists Association on the criteria for high-quality works that meet the requirements of the Regulations of the 19th National Journalism Award – 2024.
The presentations at the conference assessed the achievements as well as the difficulties and shortcomings in the implementation of the High-Quality Journalism Support Program; and proposed practical solutions to implement the program more effectively in the future.
The conference also heard shared experiences and suggestions from media agencies on digital transformation. Journalist Le Xuan Trung – Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper – discussed the application of digital technology achievements in creating high-quality journalistic works, meeting the needs of modern journalism, and enhancing communication capabilities.
Journalist Ngo Tran Thinh - Head of the Digital Content Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Television News Center - discussed the application of technology in producing multimedia journalistic products and creative journalism… thereby contributing to improving the quality of multimedia journalistic works in the context of digital transformation to meet the requirements of journalism today.
The conference also summarized and evaluated the results of implementation and shared experiences in applying digital transformation to improve the quality of journalistic works during the implementation of the High-Quality Journalism Support Program according to Decision No. 558/QD-TTg dated April 8, 2021, of the Prime Minister and Decision No. 348/QD-TTg dated April 6, 2023, of the Prime Minister on "Approving the strategy for digital transformation of journalism until 2025, with orientation to 2030".
Therefore, to meet the new requirements of the National Press Award Regulations issued with Decision No. 50/QD-HDGBCQG dated June 21, 2024, of the National Press Award Council on the promulgation of the National Press Award Regulations (amended and supplemented); ensuring high-quality journalistic works associated with the goal of promoting sustainable development in the region.
