Using digital technology to make news has become a matter of survival for journalism.

That was the affirmation of Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi at the Conference "High-quality journalism in the context of digital transformation to meet the new requirements of the National Press Awards Charter and promote the task of sustainable development in the Central Highlands - Central region" held on the morning of November 5 in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province.

The conference was attended by representatives of the following agencies: Government Office; Central Committee for Mass Mobilization; representatives of non-governmental organizations; Ministry of Home Affairs; leaders of Phu Yen province; leaders of the Association and Office of the Journalists Association, representatives of newspapers and radio stations of the Central Highlands and Central provinces.

Comrades: Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association; Tran Trong Dung - Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association; Pham Doan Anh Kiet - Vice President in charge of Phu Yen Journalists Association chaired the conference.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, comrade Nguyen Duc Loi shared: After nearly 4 years of implementation, the Program to support high-quality press works at all levels of the Journalists Association for the period 2021 - 2025 has had many good successes in supporting journalists and the development of Vietnamese journalism.

Specifically, in 3 years (2021-2023), the State budget to support high-quality press works at the Central level is 11.46 billion VND, supporting nearly 4,000 authors, supporting the Journalists Associations of localities nationwide is 27.7 billion VND, thereby, collecting thousands of high-quality press works.

Since 2024, the National Press Awards Council has revised and completed the Awards Charter. In particular, 2 new award groups have been added: Print Magazine and Electronic Magazine Awards; Digital Press Product Awards and Creative Media Journalism Projects.

This supplement has proactively followed the Party's new viewpoints and policies, the direction of the General Secretary, in line with the strategy issued by the Prime Minister and in line with the current practice and general development trend of the press and media.

At the conference, delegates also heard representatives of the Professional Board and the Vietnam Journalists Association discuss the criteria for high-quality works that meet the requirements of the Charter of the 19th National Press Award - 2024.

The presentations at the conference presented evaluations of the results achieved as well as difficulties and shortcomings in the implementation of the High-Quality Journalism Support Program; at the same time, proposed practical solutions to implement the program more effectively in the coming time.

The conference also heard experiences and comments from press agencies on digital transformation. Journalist Le Xuan Trung - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper discussed the application of digital technology achievements in creating high-quality press works, meeting the needs of modern journalism, and improving propaganda capacity.

Journalist Ngo Tran Thinh - Head of Digital Content Department, Ho Chi Minh City Television News Center, discussed the application of technology to produce multimedia and creative journalism products... Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of multimedia journalism works in the context of digital transformation to meet current journalism requirements.

The conference also summarized and evaluated the implementation results and shared experiences in applying digital transformation to improve the quality of press works in the process of implementing the High-Quality Press Support Program according to Decision No. 558/QD-TTg dated April 8, 2021 of the Prime Minister and Decision No. 348/QD-TTg dated April 6, 2023 of the Prime Minister on "Approving the strategy for digital transformation of press to 2025, with a vision to 2030".

From there, meeting the new requirements of the National Press Awards Charter issued together with Decision No. 50/QD-HDGBCQG dated June 21, 2024 of the National Press Awards Council on promulgating the National Press Awards Charter (amended and supplemented); ensuring high-quality press works associated with the goal of promoting the sustainable development tasks of the region.
