Highlights of the province last week
(Baonghean.vn) - The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee working with leaders of Thai Hoa Town, organizations and individuals supporting flood victims in Nghe An, and Hospital 115 receiving the Third-Class Labor Medal are the highlights of the past week.
1. Nghe An suffers over 548 billion VND in damage due to floods and heavy rain.
The People's Committee of Nghe An province submitted a report (No. 624/BC-UBND dated October 21, 2016) to the Prime Minister and the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on the situation of natural disasters and the direction of response to the heavy rains and floods from October 13-16 in the province.

According to assessments, the estimated value of damage caused by the recent floods in Nghe An is approximately 548.05 billion VND.
According to reports from local authorities and units, the entire province recorded 5 deaths (1 in Nam Dan district; 1 in Yen Thanh district; 2 in Hung Nguyen district; and 1 in Thanh Chuong district), and 8,225 households were affected by flooding.
Regarding agricultural production: 2,231.07 hectares of rice fields were flooded, with 1,855.27 hectares damaged; 7,674.92 hectares of corn and various vegetables were damaged; 77.3 hectares of annual crops were damaged, with 42.0 hectares damaged by over 70%; 35.3 hectares damaged between 30% and 50%; 6.0 hectares of concentrated fruit trees were damaged by over 70%;... Regarding livestock, 322 animals were swept away; 22,224 poultry were swept away; 6 livestock shelters collapsed... The area of aquaculture farms flooded and damaged was 3,506.6 hectares; 3 fish cages were swept away...
Many roads were affected by landslides; on National Highway 46, a 250-meter section passing through Ru Nguoc (Thanh Chuong) was affected by a landslide.3A landslide occurred in Hung Yen Nam commune, spanning 200 meters; 10 bridges were damaged, 5 collapsed; and 6 overflow bridges were affected by landslides.
Nghe An province has requested urgent assistance from the central government in the form of food, water and environmental treatment chemicals, and funding, including: 103 tons of rice for famine relief; 700 kg of powdered Chloramine B and 200,000 tablets of Chloramine B for water and environmental treatment; and 203.73 billion VND in financial support, including assistance for families with fatalities, collapsed houses requiring emergency relocation; support for restoring agricultural production; and support for repairing damaged transportation, irrigation, and essential infrastructure caused by floods...
2. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee inspects key projects and works with the Standing Committee of the Thai Hoa Town Party Committee.
DayOn October 20th, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected several construction projects and held a working session with the Standing Committee of the Thai Hoa Town Party Committee.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee directly inspected the investment project for the construction of the Hi-Tex export garment factory by a South Korean company in the Nghia My industrial cluster, surveyed the site for the expansion of the Nghia My industrial cluster, and visited the highly effective dairy farming model of Mr. Tran Duy Duc's family in Dong Hung hamlet. Having started dairy farming in 2007, his farm now has 38 dairy cows, generating billions of dong in annual income from milk sales. He also visited the Quang Phong fine art woodworking village, inspected the town's main transportation routes, and the Thai Hoa wastewater treatment plant.

Working with the leaders of Thai Hoa Town Party Committee on future orientations, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee pointed out that Thai Hoa holds an extremely important position in the economic development of the entire Northwest region and the province. Therefore, Thai Hoa Town needs to identify several key issues such as: planning, building a team of cadres, accelerating urbanization, strongly developing trade, services, and tourism, strengthening regional linkages; strengthening production development, restructuring agriculture associated with building sustainable new rural areas based on promoting cooperation, linkages, applying scientific and technological advancements, and connecting with the market; decisively directing efforts to significantly improve the investment environment, focusing on attracting investment and developing small and medium-sized enterprises.
3. Nghe An 115 General Hospital receives the Third-Class Labor Medal.
On the afternoon of October 20th, 115 General Hospital in Nghe An province held a ceremony to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of 115 Hospital Joint Stock Company, the 10th anniversary of the hospital's establishment, and to receive the Third-Class Labor Medal.
In 2001, the 115 Emergency Medical Examination and Transportation Company Limited was established to meet the medical needs of the people and reduce the burden on public hospitals in the region. After three years of operation, the company provided initial emergency care and timely transportation for 7,337 safe trips involving 7,085 patients. By the end of 2004, the company changed its name to 115 Hospital Joint Stock Company.

In 2006, the 115 Hospital Joint Stock Company inaugurated the 115 Hospital in Nghe An. Starting from a narrow specialty, through a process of construction and development, the 115 Hospital is now a multi-specialty hospital with 18 departments/functional units, a capacity of 250 beds, and over 300 staff members, including 4 specialists (Level II) and 4 distinguished physicians.
With numerous achievements in medical examination, treatment, and healthcare for the people, the 115 General Hospital of Nghe An has received many commendations from the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province. In October 2016, the hospital was honored to receive the Third-Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam.
4. Many organizations and individuals have joined hands to support those affected by the floods.
Over the past week, even before the floodwaters receded in some areas of Nghe An province, support activities for the affected people have been underway. This year, in particular, in addition to donations distributed through the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Fatherland Front, and the Red Cross, many organizations and individuals have directly reached out to the flood-affected communities.

These timely acts of support have helped to encourage people in flood-affected areas to remain steadfast and actively overcome the consequences of the floods, and to stabilize their lives as soon as possible. The amount of money and gifts donated has reached billions of dong.
5.Four teachers and students from Nghe An province were honored as outstanding individuals nationwide.
At the ceremony honoring outstanding teachers and students of the 2015-2016 school year, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training on October 19th, 126 teachers and 126 students representing over 1.1 million teachers and more than 15 million students in general education nationwide were recognized.
On this occasion, Nghe An province has two teachers and two students who were honored with awards. The first is Ms. Le Thi Tho An, a Physics teacher at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, who has successfully mentored 38 students to achieve excellent results at the provincial, national, regional, and international levels. The second is Ms. Phan Thi Binh, a teacher at Quan Hanh Secondary School, who has been recognized as an excellent teacher at the provincial level for many years and has numerous innovative teaching methods at level 3.

Regarding students, there is Nguyen Le Hung, formerly a student of Le Mao Primary School and now a student of Dang Thai Mai Secondary School, who achieved First Prize in the National Young Informatics Competition and a Bronze Medal in the National IOE English Competition. The second is Nguyen Tien Dung, formerly a student of Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, the top scorer in Block B nationwide, and now a student at Hanoi Medical University.
