2. Knife attacks in Japan

In the early hours of July 26th, Satoshi Uematsu murdered 19 people and injured 25 others at a center for people with disabilities in Sagamihara City before turning himself in to the police. Since World War II, this is considered the deadliest and most shocking attack in Japan – a country widely regarded as one of the safest in the world.
3. Hillary Clinton officially becomes the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

On July 26th, Hillary Clinton officially became the first woman nominated to represent the Democratic Party in the US presidential election. On the evening of July 28th, she delivered her acceptance speech and began her campaign, competing against Donald Trump of the Republican Party for the White House in November.
4. Security alert in Europe

The security situation in Europe remains unstable with renewed attacks and threats of attack in Germany, France, and Belgium. On July 26, France was again targeted when two teenagers, Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Nabil Petijiean, who pledged allegiance to ISIS, attacked a church in Saint Etienne de Rouvray.
