Highlights of domestic events this past week

(Baonghean.vn) - Commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of General Secretary Truong Chinh; the Prime Minister visits a shrimp production facility with a 'dream' of achieving $2 billion; child abuse at Sen Vang Kindergarten (Hanoi); ... are some of the notable domestic events of the past week.

1. Commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of General Secretary Truong Chinh

On the morning of February 9th, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nam Dinh province solemnly organized a ceremony to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the birth of General Secretary Truong Chinh (February 9, 1907 - February 9, 2017).

Attending the event were General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; President Tran Dai Quang; former Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An; former Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung; Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan; Comrade Dinh The Huynh, Member of the Political Bureau and Standing Secretary of the Party Central Committee; and many other leaders and former leaders of the Party and State.

The program at the commemoration ceremony recreated the important milestones in the life of General Secretary Truong Chinh, a staunch and exemplary communist fighter; an outstanding leader of the Party and the Vietnamese revolution; a great theorist, cultural figure, journalist, and poet born and raised in Nam Dinh province, who dedicated his entire life to the cause of national liberation, reunification, and building and defending the Fatherland.

2. Prime Minister visits shrimp production facility with a $2 billion 'dream'.

On the afternoon of February 5th, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited the shrimp processing and export model of Minh Phu Seafood Group Joint Stock Company in Ca Mau City, Ca Mau province. This is a leading enterprise in Vietnam and the world in shrimp exports.

Speaking with the company's leaders, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated Minh Phu's recent business achievements, becoming the world's largest shrimp exporter and providing employment for a large number of workers. At the same time, the Prime Minister also praised Minh Phu for applying various shrimp farming models, including intensive and extensive farming, as well as rice-shrimp and mangrove shrimp farming, while prioritizing environmental protection.

Regarding the model of shrimp farming in mangrove forests, the Prime Minister requested the company to conduct research to both develop shrimp farming and protect the forest and environment. With a large workforce, Minh Phu also needs to pay attention to the lives of its employees, allocating land and resources to invest in housing for workers.

With the support of the Government, ministries, departments, and localities, the Prime Minister hopes that Minh Phu will strive to achieve $2 billion in exports by 2021, contributing to the early achievement of the national target of $10 billion in shrimp export turnover.

3. The Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos chair a meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee.

Over two days (February 7th and 8th), the 39th session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee was held in Hanoi, chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. Representatives from 30 ministries, agencies, and localities of both Vietnam and Laos attended the session, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is the first time the prime ministers of the two countries have co-chaired the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, demonstrating the strong determination of the high-level leaders of both countries to effectively implement the 2017 Cooperation Plan.

At the meeting, both sides highly appreciated the results of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in 2016 in implementing high-level agreements and agreements between ministries, sectors, and localities. In particular, the field of education and training has been significantly strengthened. Currently, there are over 14,000 Lao students studying in Vietnam.

The two sides have established a new mechanism for coordinating and promoting bilateral cooperation. Vietnamese businesses have invested in Laos with over 400 projects, totaling approximately $3.7 billion.

In 2017, both sides agreed to focus on promoting relations in many areas, expanding cooperation in human resource training, investing in transportation infrastructure projects connecting the two countries, and cooperating in the sustainable management and use of water resources and other natural resources. Both sides were determined to successfully organize the "Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2017," commemorating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

Immediately after the meeting, the prime ministers of the two countries witnessed the signing of four cooperation documents on bilateral cooperation, a cooperation plan between the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos, and a Memorandum of Agreement to establish a joint venture company to invest in the construction project of the 500 kV Laos-Vietnam power transmission line.

4. The Deputy Minister of Construction holds the position of Deputy Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee.

According to Decision No. 439 of the Party Central Committee, Mr. Do Duc Duy, Deputy Minister of Construction, has been appointed to the Executive Committee and Standing Committee, and to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee for the 2015-2020 term. Mr. Do Duc Duy was born on May 20, 1970, is from Thai Binh province, holds a Master's degree in Construction, and has advanced political theory qualifications.

Presenting the decision to Mr. Do Duc Duy, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Organization Department, Nguyen Thanh Binh, on behalf of the leaders of the Central Organization Department and the working group, wished Mr. Do Duc Duy excellent performance in his assigned tasks.

The Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Organization Department stated that Mr. Do Duc Duy is a young, well-trained official with innovative thinking, who has risen through various positions.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh suggested that, in his new position, Mr. Do Duc Duy should quickly familiarize himself with the work, actively strive to improve himself, be dedicated to his job, and stay close to the grassroots to work with the Executive Committee of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee to proactively and creatively lead the successful implementation of the set goals. He also requested that the Executive Committee of the Party Committee, the Party organization, the government, and the people of Yen Bai province support Mr. Do Duc Duy in fulfilling his assigned responsibilities and duties.

5. Opening Ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2017 in Lao Cai

The 2017 National Tourism Year in Lao Cai - Northwest Vietnam featured many rich and unique activities, with the participation of 8 provinces in the expanded Northwest region including: Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Ha Giang, as well as other provinces and cities responding to the event: Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, and Can Tho.

The series of cultural, sports, and tourism events in Lao Cai in 2017 includes: the Spring Festival at Thuong Temple in the first quarter of 2017 in districts and cities throughout the province; the Summer Festival in the second quarter of 2017 in Sa Pa district; the White Plateau Horse Racing Program in Bac Ha in June 2017 in Bac Ha district; the Autumn Festival in the third quarter of 2017, opening in Y Ty commune (Bat Xat); and the Winter Festival in the fourth quarter of 2017, opening during Christmas in Sa Pa town.

6. Police investigate child abuse case at Sen Vang Kindergarten (Hanoi)

The Hai Ba Trung District Police Chief in Hanoi said they are consolidating the case file to prosecute the abuse incident at the Sen Vang kindergarten. Previously, a video clip circulated on social media showing a teacher at the facility hitting a child on the head with a slipper, pinching their ears, and kneeing them in the stomach.

On February 6th, the Hai Ba Trung District Police (Hanoi) announced that they had questioned two teachers from the Sen Vang kindergarten to clarify their alleged child abuse.

Previously, on February 5th, a 2-minute video appeared on social media showing a boy, approximately 3 years old, urinating near the classroom door when he was repeatedly hit on the head with a slipper, kneed in the stomach, and constantly yelled at by a teacher. The video, which went viral, was allegedly recorded by another teacher at the school.

Authorities have launched an investigation to verify that the clip was recorded at the Sen Vàng preschool in Minh Khai ward, Hai Bà Trưng district. The owner of the facility is Ms. Vũ Thị Tân (born in 1983, residing in Ba Đình, Hanoi).

The two teachers who physically abused students in the aforementioned video are Dang Thi Binh (born in 1994, residing in Kinh Mon, Hai Duong) and Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat (born in 1995, residing in Yen Yen, Nam Dinh). Both started working at Sen Vang School in September 2016.

On February 5th, the police summoned both of them for questioning. Initially, both confessed that they were so frustrated by the children's frequent crying and soiling of their pants that they lost control and used rulers and sandals to hit them.

7. Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade visit temples during working hours.

Regarding the information about "officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade going to temples during working hours" as reflected in a report by Vietnam Television at 7 PM on February 7th, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has officially commented on the matter. Accordingly, immediately after the news was broadcast, the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade requested relevant units to verify and clarify the situation.

By 9 PM that same day, a quick report from the Trade Promotion Department stated that an investigation had confirmed that an official from the Export Support Center under the Trade Promotion Department appeared in the news broadcast aired by VTV.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh requested the Trade Promotion Department to explain the incident and report back to the Ministry's leadership on the morning of February 8th. Based on the Trade Promotion Department's explanation, the Ministry will consider disciplinary action against the individuals and groups involved in the incident.

On the evening of February 8th, information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade indicated that on February 20th, the Ministry's Disciplinary Council would convene to decide on disciplinary action against Mr. Bui Quang Hung, Director of the Export Support Center, for attending a religious ceremony during working hours. The head of the Trade Promotion Department will also have to review their performance in managing staff.

8.In 2017, police academies did not accept applications from students in Group C.

On February 7th, the General Political Department of the People's Public Security announced the 2017 admission plan for regular programs at police schools, which does not include the Literature - History - Geography subject combination.

According to an announcement on February 7th from the General Political Department of the People's Public Security, in 2017, the People's Public Security schools will use the results of the national high school graduation exam organized by the Ministry of Education and Training for admissions. Unlike previous years, the traditional subject combination of Literature - History - Geography (Block C) will not be used for admissions.

To apply for admission to the Security and Police Operations major, universities use three subject combinations: D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English); C03 (Literature, Mathematics, History); and A01 (Mathematics, Physics, English).

To apply for admission to the fields of Party Building and State Administration, and Law, universities use two subject combinations: D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English) and C03 (Literature, Mathematics, History).

To apply for majors in Information Technology, Information Security, Electronic Engineering, and Communications, two subject combinations are used: D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English) and A01 (Mathematics, Physics, English).

The Fire Prevention and Rescue major uses the A00 subject combination (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry). The English Language and Chinese Language majors use the D01 subject combination (Mathematics, Literature, English).

In previous years, the C block of subjects was used for admission to many majors such as: Security Operations, Police Operations, Law, etc.
