Jellyfish and their little-known uses.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, jellyfish meat is salty in taste and cold in nature, and is used to expel phlegm, relieve cough, calm asthma, clear heat, promote diuresis, burn fat, lower blood pressure, and promote bowel movements.

Jellyfish come in many types, belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. The edible jellyfish only causes mild itching upon contact. This is the lotus jellyfish (Aurelia aurita), also known as the lotus-like jellyfish. There are also other species, such as the thread jellyfish and the pink jellyfish, which can cause more intense itching. If you develop a rash and itching after touching a jellyfish while swimming, apply fresh jellyfish flesh to the affected area. Alternatively, wash and chew sea morning glory (which grows naturally on the beach), swallowing the juice and applying the remaining pulp to the itchy area.
