During the holidays, the Sen Market shopping center (Nam Dan district) was crowded with shoppers. Traders proactively stocked up on goods to serve the public. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, who sells children's fashion items there, said: “The long holiday, coupled with the upcoming school year, has led to a high demand for children's clothing. Therefore, we imported a large quantity of diverse fashion items beforehand, prioritizing autumn-winter clothing and school uniforms. Prices for shirts, pants, shoes, hats, etc., remain stable and haven't increased compared to previous years.”

To attract more shoppers, Ms. Huong implemented additional programs such as giving gifts to children who purchased clothing at the shop; offering a 10% discount to children who achieved high academic results in the past school year… As a result, in just the four-day holiday period, the shop's revenue tripled compared to the days before.

At Sa Nam market (Nam Dan town) during the holidays, the shopping atmosphere is just as bustling, with a large number of customers.

“Normally, the market is sparsely populated, now that shopping malls and supermarkets are widespread in the area. However, during holidays, the market is very crowded. Besides locals, there are many people working away from home and tourists. They mainly come to buy food and enjoy local dishes such as Nam Nghia veal, Lam River clams, and various types of cakes… Prices are stable, and many customers buy souvenirs,” shared Ms. Tran Thi Thu, a small business owner at Sa Nam Market.

In rural markets, the holiday season also attracts a large number of shoppers. The best-selling items are local agricultural products, as many people return to their hometowns for the holidays, leading to high demand for food for meals, parties, and gatherings.

“Villages and hamlets organize football tournaments, camps, and parades to celebrate National Day, and families celebrate Independence Day, so the demand for food increases. Buffalo meat, fish, and river shrimp are in high demand during the four-day holiday. On some days, my establishment alone slaughters 2-3 buffaloes and still runs out of stock,” said Thai Ba Dung, a small trader selling buffalo and beef at the New Market in Thuan Son commune (Do Luong district).

During this time, traditional specialty products such as rice crackers, peanut candy, thorn cakes, pickled bamboo shoots, and salted olives are also quite popular as children working far from home return for the holidays and place orders to bring back as gifts. “I only get to go back to my hometown a few times a year, so I buy pickled bamboo shoots, olives, and rice crackers to use gradually and to give as gifts. This time, I went back home during the olive season, so I bought two boxes of salted olives, two boxes of pickled bamboo shoots, and 300 rice crackers to bring to Saigon, both for my family to eat and to give to friends and colleagues,” said Ms. Quynh Hoa from Thanh Dong commune (Thanh Chuong district), currently living in Saigon.

In Vinh City, supermarkets and shopping malls have seen a sudden surge in visitors and shoppers. This is partly due to many people taking advantage of the holiday and the upcoming school year to take their children out for shopping and recreation; and partly because consumer stimulus programs, discounts, and promotions have attracted widespread consumer interest.

Mr. Tran An Khang, a representative of a supermarket in Vinh City, said: “The supermarket has prepared goods worth tens of billions of VND to serve consumers. During this holiday, the supermarket is implementing many attractive promotional programs, offering discounts of up to 50% on all products, especially fresh food items such as meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, household goods, confectionery, etc. Every day, thousands of customers visit and shop at the supermarket during the holiday, a 50% increase compared to normal days.”
