According to records, purchasing power increased, goods were abundant, prices were stable, retail systems implemented many promotional programs, stimulating consumption.
During the holidays, at Sen Market shopping center (Nam Dan), many people come to shop. Small traders proactively source goods to serve people. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, who sells children's fashion here, said: "The holiday is long, plus the new school year is about to start, so the demand for buying clothes and pants for children has increased. Therefore, in advance, we have imported a large quantity of diverse fashion items, prioritizing Fall - Winter clothes and school clothes. The prices of shirts, pants, shoes, sandals, hats, etc. are stable, not increasing compared to previous years."
To attract people to shop, Ms. Huong launched a program to give gifts to children when buying clothes at the shop; 10% discount for children with high achievements in the past school year... Thanks to that, in just 4 days of holiday, the shop's revenue increased 3 times compared to the previous days.
At Sa Nam market (Nam Dan town) during the holidays, the shopping atmosphere is equally bustling, with a large number of visitors to the market.
“Normally, the market is sparsely populated, as shopping malls and supermarkets are popular in the area. However, during the holidays, the market is very crowded. In addition to locals, there are also many children working far away and tourists coming to the market. They mainly come to buy food and enjoy dishes at the market such as Nam Nghia veal, Lam River mussels, cakes, etc. In terms of stable prices, many customers buy them as gifts,” said Ms. Tran Thi Thu, a trader at Sa Nam market.
In rural markets, during the holidays, many customers come to shop. The best-selling items are local agricultural products, when many people return to their hometowns for the holidays, the demand for food to organize meals, parties, and meetings during the holidays is high.
“Villages and hamlets organize football tournaments, camping trips, and National Day parades, and families celebrate Independence Day, so the demand for food increases. Buffalo meat, fish, and river shrimp are in high demand during the four-day holiday. There are days when my facility alone butchers 2-3 buffaloes and still runs out of stock,” said Thai Ba Dung, a buffalo and beef trader at Cho Moi, Thuan Son commune (Do Luong).
On this occasion, traditional specialty production facilities such as rice paper, peanut candy, gai cake, pickled jute, salted canarium… are also quite popular when children working far away return home for the holidays to order them as gifts. “I can only go home a few times a year, so I buy pickled jute, canarium, and rice paper to take with me for later use and as gifts. This time I went home in the canarium season, so I bought 2 boxes of salted canarium, 2 boxes of pickled jute and 300 rice paper to bring to Saigon, both for my family to eat and to give to friends and colleagues,” said Ms. Quynh Hoa in Thanh Dong commune (Thanh Chuong), currently living in Saigon.
In Vinh city, supermarkets and shopping malls have seen a sudden increase in the number of visitors and shoppers. Partly because many people are taking advantage of the holiday, before the new school year, to take their children out and shop; partly because the consumer stimulus program, discounts and promotions have attracted the attention of many consumers.
Mr. Tran An Khang, representative of a supermarket in Vinh city, said: “The supermarket has prepared goods worth tens of billions of VND to serve consumers. On this holiday, the supermarket has launched many attractive promotional programs, with discounts of up to 50% on all products, especially fresh foods such as meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, household items, candy, etc. Every day, thousands of customers come to visit and shop at the supermarket during the holiday, an increase of 50% compared to normal days.”
