Russian sniper rifles are forcing the US to change tactics.

December 15, 2017 10:49

The American magazine Popular Mechanics acknowledges that, because of Russia's T-5000 tank, traditional American combat tactics must change.

According to this source, the T-5000 heavy sniper rifle will force the US to change its concept of "safe distance" and its entire conventional combat strategy.

Traditional American combat tactics would be useless against Russian soldiers on the battlefield once they are equipped with T-5000 sniper rifles. Popular Mechanics suggests that, previously, the Russian Army used Dragunov rifles effectively at relatively close ranges due to the poor quality of their optical equipment.

The American magazine claims that the T-5000 sniper rifle can even accurately hit targets at distances up to 1.8 km. Therefore, this new generation rifle surpasses even the American McMillian TAC-338, which can only hit targets at a distance of 1.5 km.

American scholars argue that new tactics are needed to counter the threat posed by the T-5000. Along with this, the US needs to use smoke grenades, drones, and other special weapons to locate and attack the weapon before it can be deployed on the battlefield.

Popular Mechanics, citing US military sources, reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense is conducting extensive testing of the T-5000 sniper rifle. Moscow claims that this rifle possesses a range of features far superior to similar rifles manufactured in the West.

The T-5000, first introduced in 2011, is designed for use with both Russian-made and NATO standard ammunition. The latest version of the T-5000 can hit targets from a distance of up to 2km.

This exceptional capability was proven when, in 2012, Russian soldiers using this rifle won an international military sniper competition.

The T-5000 sniper rifle has a range of over 2km and achieves high accuracy at long distances. It features low recoil, adjustable trigger weight, a telescopic sight system, and a barrel coated with a secret material to ensure accuracy.

However, despite its many advantages, the Orsis T-5000 still has many limitations before being mass-produced. In particular, the upgrades to the weapon rely on borrowed foreign technology, making it vulnerable to sanctions imposed by the US and Europe, according to military expert Alexander Vershinin.

And this may be the reason why, in addition to the T-5000, Russia has just begun developing an armor-piercing sniper rifle capable of reaching a range of up to 10,000m.
