(Baonghean.vn) - On October 2nd, the SANA news agency quoted a statement from the Syrian army saying that rebel forces should leave the eastern area of Aleppo, a city in northern Syria, while also stating that they would ensure a safe withdrawal route and provide necessary aid to the rebels.

The statement read: "The Supreme Military Command calls on all armed fighters in eastern Aleppo to leave these areas and allow residents to live normal lives. The Russian and Syrian military leaders will ensure a safe passage for the fighters and provide them with necessary assistance.”
Earlier that day, a military source said that the Syrian army, with the support of allied fighters, had regained control of key factories in the Aleppo hotspot. This victory by the army was part of a large-scale counteroffensive against areas held by rebel forces.

Located in northwestern Syria, Aleppo is considered a strategic and important city for the warring parties due to its border with Türkiye and was once the economic center of Syria. Since mid-2012, Aleppo has been divided between the western area controlled by government forces and the eastern area controlled by rebel forces.
