Thanh Chuong is a locality with a large pig population. Pigs raised in this district are popular because of their fragrant and delicious meat. The appearance of an African swine fever outbreak in Thanh Chuong is a matter of great concern.
As of April 23rd, African swine fever has re-emerged in 15 outbreaks affecting 105 households across 6 districts: Dien Chau (1 commune), Quynh Luu (1 commune), Que Phong (1 commune), Thanh Chuong (6 communes), and Yen Thanh (6 communes). To date, over 97,000 pigs have been culled due to African swine fever throughout the province.
Facing the risk of a resurgence of the disease, the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine advises localities and livestock farmers to strictly implement disease prevention and control measures, adhere to biosafety practices in livestock farming, and comply with regulations when restocking after an outbreak.
