Why shouldn't you pop pimples in the "triangle of death" area?
While it is common knowledge that popping pimples can cause inflammation, dark spots, and unsightly scars, many people are unaware of the dangerous consequences of popping pimples in a particular area of the face.

According to Jeremy Brauer, clinical instructor of dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center, the veins that run behind the eye sockets drain into the “cavernous sinus” in the brain, so picking or popping pimples in the triangle of death is very dangerous.
When we pick or squeeze pimples, dirt from our hands and bacteria in the air can contaminate the open wound, causing serious infection.
The veins behind the eyes form blood clots containing infection, which in turn increases pressure in the brain leading to partial or complete paralysis and, in some cases, even death.
If left untreated, cavernous sinus infections can also lead to blindness, brain abscesses, and meningitis.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sandra Lee explains, in the worst case scenario, if the inflammation from the pimple spreads to the inside of the brain, there is a possibility of blindness and major stroke.
This condition, called cavernous sinus thrombosis, kills 30% of people with it.
While the chances of this happening are “very low,” that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take every precaution when dealing with pimples.
Dr. Lee recommends dabbing toner on stubborn pimples in the Dead Triangle to disinfect the area and reduce swelling. While popping pimples in the Dead Triangle can lead to dangerous infections, you can also end up with significant facial scarring because infections have to get serious before they become life-threatening.
Even plucking nose hairs can leave you vulnerable to infection in the triangular area, as a small amount of blood oozes from the severed hair follicle.
To avoid this, you should trim your nose hairs instead of plucking them.
What is the most hygienic way to pop a pimple?
According to Dr. Sandra Lee, it's best to leave pimples alone because picking or squeezing them can damage the skin.
She recommends applying a bandage over the blemish or covering it with an acne cream that has antiseptic properties to reduce inflammation.
For stubborn pimples, it is best to apply a warm compress to reduce swelling.
