Why does the toilet smell bad even though it is clean?

October 11, 2016 09:31

The drainage system in the house has a bend, which helps hold water, to prevent odors from coming back. Because it is curved, it is easy to accumulate dirt, causing odors and blockages.

When the room smells bad, you often think of using fragrances such as essential oils, room sprays to cover it up or pouring cleaning products into the toilet. However, when you stop using it, the toilet may smell like before.

Therefore, the first thing you need to do is find out where the odor comes from to completely solve it. In the bathroom, the toilet and the drain are the two places that are most likely to cause odors. You need to check the following factors:

- A lot of residue sticks to the pipes:In toilets, urinals, and sinks, there is a siphon tube that holds water to prevent odors from coming back. Due to its curved design, this part easily accumulates dirt that causes odors and blockages. To deal with this residue, you use liquid or tablet cleaning products poured into the toilet or sink, soak according to the instructions and flush.

- Septic tank is full:Most houses today use septic tanks but still have accumulated sludge. For households, the time to pump out septic tanks is about 2-3 years. If you have not done this for too long, the toilet is also likely to smell bad. Currently, there are many companies that support the service with a price of about 400,000 - 500,000 VND for pumping and transporting one cubic meter of sludge.

- The septic tank vent is blocked:If installed incorrectly, this pipe can become clogged, causing foul gases to back up. This repair requires a professional.

- The water level in the siphon is too low:In normal condition, the water in the siphon pipe and the tank are at the same level, about 10 cm. If installed incorrectly, the water in the pipe is lower, causing the foul gas to flow back and spread throughout the room. In this case, you need to hire a technician to reinstall the toilet correctly.

- The floor drain smells:When installing the drain pipe, you did not use a siphon tube, so the bad smell came out. In addition, it is possible that the worker mistakenly installed the pipe to the septic tank instead of a separate drain tank.

After fixing design errors and pumping the septic tank, you should regularly clean the toilet properly. Not only clean the interior surface, you also need to use pipe and toilet cleaning products periodically.

In addition, families should not put grease, non-biodegradable waste, regular paper, dirty trash, cleaning products not intended for toilet use... into the toilet.
