Why has the Su-30 become the most modern fighter jet?

February 16, 2017 07:23

The Su-30, with its various variants, has proven its worth and become one of the most modern aircraft today.

With its ability to make sudden and rapid changes of direction while flying at high acceleration, the Russian Su-30 fighter jet has become one of the most modern aircraft.

Military pilots from India, Algeria, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Russia all agree that no aircraft is more perfect than the Su-30 fighter jet.

They are the "leaders of the skies" today.

The Su-30's capabilities have been proven in practice. Its practical capabilities and technical characteristics significantly surpass those of the Su-27 (which was created based on the Su-27) and it is considered one of the world's leading fighter aircraft.

They became the first aircraft to possess super-maneuverability integrated with an optimized aerodynamic configuration.

The Su-30 features an AL-31FP engine thrust vectoring system and a dynamic canard control system to ensure controllable flight at high angles of attack.

Furthermore, the new "Bars" radar system allows the pilot to use not only long-range targeting weapons but also simultaneously engage two targets, one in the air and one on the ground. All these features are clearly demonstrated in the Su-30MKI version.

During the Cope India 2004 joint exercise between India and the United States, the Su-30MKI fighter jet had the opportunity to compete against the renowned F-15C fighter jet.

According to Indian and US media, the majority of Indian pilots defeated American pilots in a simulated battle. The Su-30MKI fighter jet then even "outmaneuvered" the famous US-made F-16 fighter jet of the Singapore Air Force.

During the Cope India 2005 exercise, Indian pilots in Su-30MKI aircraft once again triumphed over F-16C aircraft, piloted by American pilots.

In July and August 2008, Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter jets participated in the international joint exercise Red Flag alongside fighter aircraft from the US and French Air Forces.

And the result, as in previous instances, was always the victory for the Su-30MKI. In August 2015, during the Indradanush exercise, the Su-30MKI once again "defeated" the Royal Air Force's Typhoon aircraft.

Russian Su-30SM aircraft did not participate in the international joint exercises. They were the first to participate in airstrikes in Syria, the effectiveness of which has not been disclosed.

However, according to initial assessments by the Russian and Syrian Ministries of Defense, the Su-30SM has not disappointed the Russians. Currently, the Russian Aerospace Forces have approximately 110 of these aircraft, making it the largest number of combat aircraft in the Russian Air Force.

Astana has purchased Su-30SMs, and the Kazakhstan Air Force will soon increase its Su-30SM fighter fleet to at least 24 aircraft. Similarly, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense has also placed an order for them.

Particularly during Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehgans' visit to Moscow, he stated that Iran wants to receive from Russia not only fighter jets but also licenses to manufacture them.

Additionally, India plans to have approximately 14 squadrons of Su-30s, comprising around 272 aircraft, by 2018.

India is known as the primary buyer of the Su-30MKI and is heavily investing in its development. Recently, New Delhi has been actively researching the integration of the BrahMos super-cruise missile onto the fighter jet. Yesterday, February 14th, the opening day of the Aero India 2017 arms and technology exhibition in Bangalore, the Su-30MKI will be showcased with this missile.

BrahMos is known to be one of the most successful results of joint cooperation projects between Russia and India. This missile is designed based on the Russian "Yakhont" anti-ship cruise missile.

The advantages of the Su-30 are making it popular and appearing in the air forces of many countries around the world.
