Driver says bus lost brakes, plunged into ravine, killing 4 people
When arrested, Thang confessed that he had only been driving the sleeper bus for 30 minutes when he lost control and plunged into a 30 meter deep abyss.
On July 23, Cao Bang Provincial Police temporarily detained Tran Van Thang (30 years old) to clarify his behavior of driving a sleeper bus that plunged into a ravine, killing four people and injuring 16 others. "The case file is being consolidated to prepare for prosecution," the police agency said.
Driver Thang said he had just changed gears and driven about 30 meters when the brakes failed, causing the car to plunge into the abyss. The bus was on the Thai Binh - Cao Bang route, and this was Thang's second trip at the wheel.
According to the results of the forensic examination, Thang had no drug or alcohol concentration at the time of the test.

The accident occurred at around 6am on July 22 on National Highway 3 towards Cao Bang City. When reaching Km250 (through Nguyen Binh District), the passenger bus fell into a 30m deep abyss at the foot of Cao Bac Pass.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh sent his condolences to the victims and asked authorities to quickly overcome the consequences and urgently clarify the cause of the accident.

According to the report of the Vietnam Register, the passenger car was manufactured in 2009 in Vietnam, last inspected on July 12 and expired on January 11, 2019.
