PSG's attacking trio gradually became a new concept, constantly scoring goals and assisting their teammates. Their outstanding individual technique, impressive speed, and impeccable finishing ability made 'CMN' a nightmare for any defense. After destroying Bayern Munich, they continued their dominance at the top of Group B in the 2017-2018 Champions League thanks to their victory over Anderlecht.

In the third minute, Mbappe opened the scoring for the visitors with a decisive shot from a tight angle, after a one-two with Marco Verratti. Goalkeeper Matz Sels could have done better in this situation, instead of anticipating a cross from the young Frenchman. It was Mbappe's eighth goal in the Champions League – a better record than any other teenager in history.
Mbappe was also given a chance to face Sels by a home defender, but this time his feint was saved. Next, Neymar's rebound shot went just inches wide. The Belgian champions had more possession, but PSG had significantly more chances. Coach Unai Emery instructed his players to defend and counter-attack, relying on direct runs from Mbappe and Neymar.
After a few unsuccessful attempts, PSG doubled their lead before halftime. Mbappe broke through and quickly passed to Neymar, who surged straight through the opponent's defense. The Brazilian international unleashed a thunderous shot, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance to push the ball away, right into Mbappe's path. The 18-year-old striker didn't shoot despite being in a favorable position, instead heading the ball to Cavani, who put it into the net from a more advantageous position. The Uruguayan center forward extended his Champions League scoring streak to seven matches, becoming the third player to achieve this milestone, after Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite their best efforts, Anderlecht couldn't stop PSG's formidable trio, with their speed, technique, and sharp passing. The visitors did everything they could to get Neymar to score in the second half. In the 66th minute, the 25-year-old star won a free kick from 20 meters and fired the ball under the wall, scoring his ninth goal of the season.
The home side nearly scored a consolation goal in the 79th minute when captain Sofiane Hanni's dangerous header was saved by Alphonse Areola's fingertips. Henry Onyekuru – currently on Everton's books – followed up with a shot that hit the crossbar and went out. The match still saw a fourth goal, this time again for the visitors. Di Maria scored the final goal with a trademark chip, in a four-on-two situation.
