Tan Ky: Efforts to complete land conversion before 2016
(Baonghean) - Although the area of agricultural land in Tan Ky is not large, it is fragmented and consists of many different types of land. Therefore, the goal set by this locality is to complete the land conversion by the end of 2015.
Tan Ky district has 22 communes and towns, implementing the land conversion program according to Directive No. 08 of the Provincial Party Committee. In 2014, two communes in the district, Nghia Dong and Nghia Dung, served as pilot areas. Currently, 14 communes are focusing on implementing land conversion.

Nghia Hoan commune is one of the localities implementing the land conversion plan according to Directive No. 08 of the Provincial Party Committee. To date, 10 hamlets in Nghia Hoan have completed the field planning on the ground. Currently, these hamlets are mobilizing labor, hiring excavators and bulldozers, building rural roads, and constructing field and plot embankments.
In Hanh Phong hamlet, all field and plot boundaries have been excavated and constructed, forming internal field roads. These internal field roads are planned and designed with main roads 5-6 meters wide and secondary roads 3-4 meters wide. The most difficult aspect of land conversion in Hanh Phong hamlet is leveling 5 hectares of terraced fields to redistribute land for farming. The hamlet has agreed that the villagers will pay for the bulldozer rental in two installments. Each household will contribute 240,000 VND in the first installment, with the remaining amount paid in the second. The hamlet aims to have one plot of land for rice cultivation and one plot of land for sugarcane cultivation after the land conversion is complete.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, as each hamlet completes its internal field road network, the Commune People's Committee will provide water culverts to be installed across the roads to serve irrigation in the fields. It is expected that hundreds of culverts will be used in this phase, with all costs for purchasing the culverts funded by the Commune People's Committee's budget.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Head of the District's Department of Natural Resources and Environment, stated: "The difficulty for Tan Ky is the fragmented nature of agricultural land, with most fields being terraced. Therefore, to successfully convert the land, it requires decisive action from all levels and sectors, and farmers must be willing to contribute investment to improve the fields. The district People's Committee's plan is for localities to complete the land conversion by the end of this year so that farmers can confidently focus on the winter-spring crop."
Thanks to the concerted efforts of local authorities, Tan Ky will essentially complete the land conversion process this November, creating momentum for farmers to begin production in the winter-spring season with renewed hope of increasing crop yields. This also provides the conditions for Tan Ky to accelerate the new rural development movement.
