Giant apples sold during Tet, earning millions every day

This is the third year that Ms. Le Thi Lien's familyIn Quynh Thach commune (Quynh Luu), it is time to harvest apples. Like previous years, traders come to the garden to buy all the ripe apples because this variety of apple has big and sweet fruit.
Ms. Lien said that in 2013, her family went all the way to Hanoi to buy 22 apple trees of this “super sweet apple” variety to try planting. After 1 year of planting and caring for them, the first batch of apples was harvested with high productivity and economic value. Realizing that this apple variety was effective, in 2014 her family bought 200 more trees to plant in the garden with an area of over 1 hectare.
Apple trees harvested two or more times yield 70-100 kg/tree; while the first-crop apple trees yield 30-50 kg/tree. "During the days before Tet, apples are consumed strongly, selling 100-150 kg on the market every day," Ms. Lien said happily. With the garden price of 15,000 VND/kg, she earns nearly 3 million VND per day.

Apple is a fast-harvesting tree, planted only once but still able to produce fruit for nearly 10 years. Therefore, in many areas in Quynh Luu and other localities in Nghe An, people boldly invest in planting.
According to Ms. Lien's experience in growing apples, when pruning branches, you must pay attention to leaving only 3-4 branches at the base to make it easier to create a canopy and bear fruit later. The first year, prune 20cm above the ground, the second year, prune 10-15cm from the first cut. After each pruning, you need to water and fertilize the tree sufficiently to stimulate rapid growth. When fruit forms, to prevent fruit-damaging insects (bees, fruit flies), you need to buy bee-repellent medicine and hang it on the trees. |
