The spring crop of 2023 marked the first time Thanh Lien commune (Thanh Chuong district) introduced the QL301 rice variety as a demonstration model on a 0.2-hectare plot. Standing beside the golden ripe rice ready for harvest, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa from Lien Truong hamlet happily shared: "The rice plants are growing and developing well; the plants and leaves are healthier than other varieties, and they are almost completely free from pests and diseases."

"The rice hasn't been harvested yet, but looking at the plump grains and the high percentage of firm grains, the yield promises to be very high," Mr. Hoa said excitedly.

On May 20th, ThaiBinh Seed Group, in collaboration with Thanh Chuong district, organized a field workshop to evaluate the results of the QL301 hybrid rice variety demonstration model in the area. This rice variety was approved for circulation by the Department of Crop Production - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2020. The results of the demonstration model on an area of ​​1 hectare in Thanh Lien commune showed that the QL301 variety has good pest and disease resistance, strong stems, good lodging resistance, disease resistance, and especially high yield and good rice quality.

According to Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee: These initial results will serve as a basis for the district's agricultural sector to research and add to the mass production of rice varieties, contributing to economic efficiency for farmers.

In the spring of 2023, in addition to Thanh Chuong district, ThaiBinh Seed also implemented demonstrations of this variety in several key rice-growing districts of Nghe An province such as Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu, and Dien Chau, with a total area of ​​10 hectares.

Mr. Bui Quang Tuan, Director of the North Central Branch of ThaiBinh Seed Group, stated: "In all these localities, the expected yield is over 71 quintals/hectare. This serves as a basis for proposing to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the localities to add this rice variety to the crop structure in order to increase production value in subsequent seasons."

Thai Xuyen 111 is also a rice variety from Thai Binh Seed that is favored by farmers. Introduced into production in the area since 2015, according to Mr. Nguyen Cong Hiep - Vice Chairman of Thanh Lien Commune People's Committee, no other rice variety has surpassed Thai Xuyen 111 in terms of yield, cultivation requirements, and pest and disease resistance.

“In some years, the area planted with Thai Xuyen 111 rice accounted for more than 300 hectares out of the commune's total 380 hectares of rice, with the highest yield reaching over 80 quintals/hectare; except for a few years when blast and bacterial leaf blight appeared, it was almost completely free from pests and diseases, so farmers really liked it,” said Mr. Nguyen Cong Hiep. For the spring crop of 2023, the expected yield of Thai Xuyen 111 rice in Thanh Lien commune is projected to average around 73 quintals/hectare, 4 quintals/hectare higher than the estimated average yield for the entire commune.

Not only in Thanh Chuong district, but for many consecutive years, the Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety has proven its superior characteristics and advantages, earning the trust of farmers who have chosen to cultivate it in many localities throughout the province. This spring, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hop's family in Quynh Hau commune (Quynh Luu district) cultivated 10 sao (approximately 0.1 hectares) of Thai Xuyen 111 rice. Although the early season faced many unfavorable weather conditions, thanks to the addition of genes resistant to bacterial blight and blast disease, the rice plants were almost completely free from pests and diseases, growing and developing well, with a yield of nearly 9 tons/hectare. It is known that her family has been loyal to the Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety for over 10 years.

It accounts for nearly 50% of the total spring rice crop area in the province.

Thanks to the addition of genes conferring resistance to bacterial blight and blast disease, some rice varieties from ThaiBinh Seed Group, such as TBR 225 and TBR 97, have increased their resistance to pests and diseases. Coupled with superior characteristics such as short growing season, strong stems, and good lodging resistance, the cultivated area has increased rapidly.

These rice varieties have gained the trust of local communities and farmers for widespread production due to their strong tillering ability, adaptability to various soil types, good pest and disease resistance, high yield, and fragrant, delicious rice quality. In some localities, many varieties have been cultivated on large fields, yielding high efficiency and significantly contributing to increasing the value of the commodity.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc, Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, along with strictly adhering to the planting schedule and following good cultivation procedures, introducing good, high-quality seed varieties is a very important factor in achieving good and efficient production results.
