Earlier, Russia sent the frigate Admiral Makarov with long-range cruise missiles Kalibr to the Mediterranean. This warship will join the powerful fleet that Russia is deploying off the coast of Syria, including the frigates Admiral Grigorovich, Admiral Essen and Pytlivy, the landing ship Nikolai Filchenkov and the missile corvette Vishny Volochek.
Russia’s continued military moves appear to be in response to repeated ceasefire violations by terrorists in the Idlib buffer zone. Late last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow supports the establishment of a political process to resolve the tensions in Syria, but that Russia will also be determined to eliminate terrorists there.
