Russian naval vessels have been seen carrying large quantities of military equipment toward Syria as Moscow prepares to launch a new offensive in northwestern Syria.

Almasdar NewsAccording to information from the Yoruk Isik military observation group on November 21, the Nikolay Filchenkov 152, a heavy landing ship of the Russian Project 1171 BSF Tapir class, was seen passing through the Bosphorus Strait and heading towards the Mediterranean Sea.
According to the source, the Nikolay Filchenkov ship was carrying a large number of tanks and armored vehicles. The ship was reportedly en route to the Syrian port city of Tartous to deliver military equipment to the Syrian army.

Russian ships have the capacity to carry up to 20 tanks or 40 armored fighting vehicles or 1,000 tons of equipment. Accordingly, the Russian Navy often uses these ships to transport large quantities of armored vehicles to Syria.

This warship will join the formidable fleet that Russia is deploying off the coast of Syria, including the Admiral Grigorovich, Admiral Essen, and Pytlivy frigates, the Nikolai Filchenkov landing ship, and the Vishny Volochek missile frigate.
Russia's successive military deployments appear to be in response to repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement by terrorist elements in the Idlib buffer zone. Late last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow supports the establishment of a political process to resolve the tensions in Syria, but that Russia will also be resolute in eliminating terrorism there.
