According to Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Loc District, Thua Thien Hue Province, the truck carrying stones was traveling from National Highway 1A into the Khe Dieu quarry. The two people on board who died were the driver, Le Ba Dung, and the assistant driver, Le Van Thuan, both from Huong Thuy town, Thua Thien Hue Province. The bodies of the victims have been taken to the morgue at Chan May General Hospital.
The remaining deceased victim was Pham Hong Phuong (33 years old), the security officer on train SE2. Currently, the damaged train carriages have not been towed back to Thua Luu station. The railway industry believes it will take a long time to clear the scene.
“There are about 250 passengers on train SE2, who are traveling by car to Hue station to continue their journey to Hanoi. In addition, 170 passengers from the train that follows are also being transferred,” Mr. Manh informed.
