America's most sophisticated aircraft carrier lacks toilets
Among the upgrades and changes, America's newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is missing one feature: a urinal.
According to Navy Times, all bathrooms on the Ford are gender neutral, equipped with stalls and flush toilets.

Bathroom design experts explain that squat toilets are inconvenient and take up more space. Meanwhile, most of the crew members are men.
But the Navy says eliminating urinals offers many advantages for current and future operations. Making all bathrooms accessible to all sailors on board would make things more convenient.
Unisex bathrooms mean the Navy can allocate personnel without having to change the design. This feature allows for flexibility on board, as there are no gender-specific spaces on board.

Among other changes on the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier are redesigned sleeping areas with fewer beds in each room, different sleeping and recreation spaces, wider hallways, a gym and better air conditioning and lighting.
USB ports are installed for sailors to conveniently charge cell phones and other devices.
In addition to the bathroom, the Ford aircraft carrier has 23 new or upgraded technologies.
