"Instead of standing upright, the Kentavr ship experienced a technical malfunction and tilted," said Taras Chmut, head of the Ukrainian Military Center.

In February 2019, Kyiv announced plans to deploy two Kentavr landing ships to the Sea of Azov this year for protection and patrol purposes.

The first vessel of Project 58503 "Kentavr" was launched in September 2018. According to the Minister of Security and Defense of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchinov, these vessels "fully comply with the best world standards."

They are equipped with a multiple-fire system and two combat modules with large-caliber machine guns and grenade launchers. The ships can reach speeds of 40 knots and carry 36 marines with standard weaponry.
