(Baonghean.vn) - On November 7th, the Nam Dan District Police announced that they have initiated legal proceedings and detained Hoang Van Cuong (22 years old, residing in Nam Dan town) for investigation into the crime of theft.

A week ago, Cuong was arrested after police sifted through dozens of suspected individuals over several months.

Upon being taken into custody, Cuong admitted to committing 30 burglaries with a total estimated value of stolen property exceeding 200 million VND.

The young man confessed that he was a heavy drug addict and lived a nomadic life. To get money for his drugs, Cuong frequently rode his bicycle or walked around various residential areas looking for targets to steal from.

Cuong believed that when homeowners went up to the rooftop to light incense, it was the easiest time to break in, so this thief usually committed crimes on the 15th and 1st days of the lunar month. Cuong's victims were mostly civil servants and people with relatively good economic conditions in the area.

A few months ago, many people reported to the Nam Dan District Police that thieves had broken into their homes late at night or while they were away, stealing wallets, phones, televisions, and other items. The evidence suggests that these thefts were committed by the same suspect.

Currently, investigators have seized 8 computers, 4 televisions, 2 welding machines, etc. However, police suspect Cuong may have committed more crimes than he has confessed, so they are continuing to expand the investigation.
