Real-world data from Voltest shows that the LFP battery in the Tesla Model 3 retains up to 93% of its capacity after 160,934 km, significantly more durable than traditional nickel batteries.

Used Tesla Model 3s are currently considered one of the most worthwhile electric cars on the market thanks to their reliable range and optimized software system. With prices typically under $20,000 (approximately 515,000,000 VND), the biggest hurdle for buyers is often concern about the battery's durability after years of operation.

According to real-world data, the answer is largely positive. Davide Giacobbe, CEO of Voltest – a startup specializing in testing electric vehicle batteries – says that about 70% of the vehicles they test still maintain at least 80% of their battery capacity after extended use.

LFP batteries: Advantages in lifespan and performance.

Data from Voltest indicates that if buyers want a used Tesla to maintain better performance over the long term, Model 3s using lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are the preferred choice. This type of battery stands out for its low manufacturing cost, high temperature and voltage tolerance, and longer lifespan.

In particular, LFP batteries allow users to frequently charge them to 100% with minimal impact on the battery's chemical lifespan. Meanwhile, nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) batteries, common in the US, while offering high energy density for longer driving ranges and faster charging, tend to degrade more quickly over time.

To accurately assess the difference, Voltest analyzed data from 20 Tesla Model 3s that had driven over 100,000 miles (160,934 km). The results showed a clear difference between the two battery technologies:
