Nearly 7,300 2025 Tesla Model Y vehicles in Australia are being urgently recalled due to a dangerous software defect that could cause injury to users from the power windows.

According to an announcement from the Australian Department of Transport, a serious software bug has been discovered in the driver's side automatic window protection system of the 2025 Tesla Model Y. This issue has led to the recall of 7,301 electric crossover vehicles.

The agency stated: "A software error could cause the automatic safety system to malfunction. As a result, the windows could close with excessive force upon encountering an obstacle, such as a human body part."

According to the description, this is a high-risk technical defect. If a body part (such as a hand or neck) is caught in the gap of the window as it closes, the force of the closure significantly increases the risk of injury to the person inside the vehicle.

Tesla acted immediately. The electric car manufacturer will contact the owners of the affected vehicles directly. Fortunately, the fix is incredibly simple and doesn't require a visit to a workshop. The entire issue will be resolved via an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

This isn't Tesla's first recall related to this issue. In 2022, the company had to recall nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the US, including the Model 3 and Model S, due to a similar defect. Earlier this year, more than 46,000 Cybertrucks were also recalled due to a problem with the body trim peeling off.
