Positioning the Model Y in the sales race.

Tesla Model Y's return to the number one spot underscores the appeal of electric vehicles in the Chinese market, where NEVs are experiencing strong growth and dominate the top 25. The September results also reflect a diversification of demand: from small city cars like the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, to BYD's mainstream models and emerging options like the Geely Geome Xingyuan.

Based on September data, the Model Y stood out in terms of commercial performance, while domestic competitors maintained a large margin in product range and market coverage. The upward momentum of the SUV segment and the expansion of NEVs provide a springboard for electric vehicles to continue increasing their market share in the coming period, provided consumer trends and supportive policies remain stable.

Conclude

The Model Y's leading sales in September were a highlight of the Chinese market, amidst a surge in NEV sales and domestic manufacturers holding a large share of the market. CPCA data revealed a month of consistent growth across segments, the dominance of NEVs in the top 25, and a top-tier race between the Model Y, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Geely Geome Xingyuan, and the BYD Song and BYD Qin duo. This trend provides a basis for assessing the short-term appeal of electric vehicles and places significant competitive pressure on all manufacturers.
