Cong Phuong almost missed Tet because he was busy playing away from home.
After his adventures in Korea and Belgium, Cong Phuong returned to Vietnam to play for Ho Chi Minh City Club. However, he almost had to celebrate Tet in a foreign land when the team named after Uncle Ho was busy competing in the AFC Champions League qualifiers.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Bay - father of striker Cong Phuong also shared about his son's decision to return to Vietnam and his playing plan during Tet holiday.
“Playing abroad is also an honor for Phuong. Actually, it is very difficult to compare with Europe, Phuong being able to go and learn more is also a good thing. As for returning to Ho Chi Minh City Club, returning to Vietnam, the playing style and everything are already familiar, it will be easier.

Cong Phuong will return home late for Tet because he is busy playing in the Asian Cup with Ho Chi Minh City Club. |
The other day, Phuong called and said that if the match with Burriram United had a good result, she would have to fly to China to continue playing and not come home to celebrate Tet with her family. Otherwise, she would have to come back right before Tet and would have to leave on the 2nd. The schedule for coming back is also limited, and it would be difficult for Phuong to go back and forth.
According to Mr. Bay, all parents want their children to be warmly reunited with their families on Tet holiday, but as a player, Phuong must follow the arrangements of his club.
"Phuong still participates in all the club's matches. When the club allows, she will take a break. As parents, everyone wants their children to come home for Tet to have fun together, but sometimes they have to accept such conditions and prioritize work. Phuong's job is sometimes like that of a soldier, prioritizing tasks first."
Phuong is also thoughtful and simple like any other child.
Despite being busy playing away from home, Cong Phuong still cares about his family. The Vietnamese national team player is always known as a filial son who always remembers his parents. This year, despite celebrating Tet late, Phuong has asked his relatives to send gifts to his family early.

Mr. Bay also shared that Cong Phuong, like many other children living far from home, will help his family prepare for Tet if he can return home early.
"Usually, when Phuong comes back early, she and her family wrap banh chung, but this year, even if she comes back, her parents have to wrap it first."
In 2019, many teammates of the same age as Cong Phuong got married such as central defender Bui Tien Dung, Duy Manh, Van Duc,.... Also thinking and worrying about his son's stability, Cong Phuong's father is not too impatient to expect a daughter-in-law.
"Phuong probably hasn't. This also depends on the conditions of each player. Actually, Phuong's parents will arrange a suitable place for her. We are also old, and as we get older, we also want our children to be stable. Parents' mentality is the same for everyone."

Cong Phuong's parents are in no hurry to find a daughter-in-law. |
In 2020, Cong Phuong will compete in Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, it will be easier for his family to cheer for and visit their son.
“In my hometown, this Tet holiday must be celebrated until the 15th of the first lunar month. That day is also very big, very busy with work. Probably after the 15th, the end of the first lunar month, the beginning of February, I can go to Ho Chi Minh City to visit Cong Phuong,” Mr. Bay shared.
