Thach Kim Tuan won the SEA Games weightlifting gold medal

The weightlifter from Binh Thuan brought home the first gold medal on August 28 and the 53rd of the Vietnamese delegation at this year's Congress.

With 120kg in the snatch and 149kg in the clean and jerk, Kim Tuan achieved a total lift of 269kg. This result is far below his personal best total lift (296kg, set at the 2015 World Championship), but is still the best among the male 56kg lifters competing in the final this morning.

In the snatch competition, Kim Tuan registered a starting weight of 120 kg, the highest among the six athletes who were supposed to compete last. The Vietnamese weightlifter easily passed this weight to take the lead. After that, the coaching staff raised the weight to 125 kg and 130 kg in the last two rounds but Kim Tuan failed to do so.

Kim Tuan's main opponents in this category are Surahmat Bin Suwoto of Indonesia and Muhamad Azroy Hazalwafie of host Malaysia. Surahmat successively passed three weights of 110kg, 115kg and 119kg. Meanwhile, Muhamad Azroy only conquered 115kg in the second round and failed at 118kg in the last round.

In the clean and jerk competition, Kim Tuan passed 146kg and then 149kg, sosure of gold medal before the third push. After that, the coaching staff raised the weight for Kim Tuan to 153kg but he was not successful. Thai weightlifter Witoon Mingmoon had a strong breakthrough in this competition when he lifted the same weight as Kim Tuan, 149kg. However, because in the snatch, Witoon Mingmoon only conquered 110kg, so he only came in second with a total lift of 259kg.

Rising to prominence after winning the gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, this weightlifter from Binh Thuan began to assert his position as number one in the Vietnamese weightlifting community, replacing his senior Hoang Anh Tuan who retired and switched to coaching.

For the past four years, Kim Tuan has always been the biggest hope of Vietnamese weightlifting every time he brings the bell to a foreign country.won two bronze medals and one silver medal at the World Championships, the Asian Games and Asian Games.
