British scientist Krtin Nithiyanandam has just announced the discovery of a cure for triple-negative breast cancer, one of the most dangerous types of breast cancer today.

Krtin Nithiyanandam was the winner of the 2015 Google Science Fair competition for his method of early detection of Alzheimer's disease. Following that success, the 16-year-old prodigy continued to use his school's lab to research therapies for the disease. In addition, Krtin also explored treatments for breast cancer.

According to the Telegraph, approximately 7,500 women are diagnosed each year with triple-negative breast cancer, a type of cancer that does not respond to medication. This type of breast cancer is difficult to treat and is more likely to recur than other types of breast cancer.

Hormone receptor-negative breast cancer is more likely to occur before age 40 or 50, while other types of breast cancer typically occur in those 60 or older. This type of cancer cannot be treated with estrogen-blocking drugs. Therefore, the only remaining treatment options are surgery and standard chemotherapy. While chemotherapy is effective for many tri-receptor-negative breast cancers, some types are resistant to chemotherapy or rapidly recur after chemotherapy ends.

Recently, the 16-year-old prodigy announced that he has found a cure for this disease. "Most types of cancer have receptors on their surface that bind to drugs. However, hormone receptor-negative breast cancer lacks these receptors, resulting in drugs being ineffective," Krtin said.

Krtin wants to develop a treatment based on the principle of bringing cancer to a treatable stage. According to the young scientist, the key to fighting this disease is the ID4 protein. The ID4 protein has the ability to prevent the differentiation of undifferentiated cancer stem cells (a form that helps slow the growth and multiplication of malignant cells). Therefore, it is necessary to block ID4 to differentiate the tumor.

He also discovered a method to disable the genes that produce the ID4 protein, aiming to bring cancer to a less dangerous stage. The prodigy hopes these findings will attract the attention of the scientific community so that the project can advance further. If successful, this would be a significant breakthrough, making a major contribution to world medicine.
