(Baonghean.vn) - Continuous heavy rain and floodwaters from upstream have caused flooding and complete isolation in many hamlets and communes of Thanh Chuong district. Many houses were deeply submerged, forcing residents to evacuate overnight.
According to observations, from the afternoon and throughout the night of October 29th,in Thanh Chuong districtHeavy to very heavy rain. The prolonged heavy rainfall caused floodwaters in streams and the Lam River to rise, resulting in widespread flooding and isolation in many areas.

In particular, on the night of October 29th, more than 800 houses in the communes of Vo Liet, Thanh Xuan, Thanh Tung, Thanh My, Thanh Khe, etc., were flooded.

According to Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, during the night, the district directed the communes of Vo Liet, Hanh Lam, Thanh Nho, Thanh Lien, and Thanh My to evacuate 423 households affected by severe flooding to safe locations.

The communes with the highest number of households to be relocated include: Thanh Lien (450 households), Thanh Nho (nearly 100 households), Thanh Xuan (39 households), Thanh Long (30 households), Ngoc Lam (40 households)...

Heavy rains also caused serious landslides on many roads in Thanh Chuong. In particular, hundreds of cubic meters of soil and rocks slid down in the Ru Nguoc area (National Highway 46) on the afternoon of October 29th. Several sections of road were also affected by landslides, such as the Thanh Huong to Ngoc Lam area. Notably, floodwaters swept away one bridge in Thanh Son commune; four temporary bridges and one overflow bridge in Thanh Mai commune.

To ensure the safety of people in areas at high risk of landslides, Thanh Chuong district has also relocated nearly 900 households living in areas prone to mountain landslides.
Currently, many hamlets and communes in Thanh Chuong are experiencing power outages.
Mr. Phan Van Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Tung commune, said that heavy rain throughout the night had completely cut off and isolated Thanh Tung commune. Areas severely flooded include Cau Loi, the section bordering Thanh Ha commune, and the Yen Thanh hamlet... In particular, a landslide is occurring in the Cua Ong Dam area of Thanh Tung commune, making the road through that section impassable.

News of Thanh Chuong, their hometown, being severely flooded overnight also caused many people living far from home to worry, almost keeping them awake all night. On many forums, many people wrote worried status updates; many updated phone numbers of rescue teams; many posted information about families needing urgent rescue...
At 5:00 AM on October 30th, Mr. Le Dinh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, stated that the rain had not stopped, and a large volume of water was flowing in from upstream, causing floodwaters to continue rising. As of this time, the floods in Thanh Chuong have resulted in two injuries: one in Thanh Thuy commune whose motorbike got entangled in power lines, and another in Hanh Lam commune who broke their arm while moving buffalo to safety from the flood. "The district is continuing to closely monitor the situation and direct the isolated villages and communes to implement measures to ensure the absolute safety of the people," Mr. Le Dinh Thanh said.
