Young man stabs pregnant girlfriend to death after being challenged.

After being criticized by his pregnant girlfriend for drinking late at night and challenged with "go ahead and stab me if you dare," Tinh grabbed a knife and stabbed his partner to death.

On the afternoon of March 21, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Court sentenced Tran Van Tinh (26 years old) to 20 years in prison for murder and ordered him to pay 110 million VND in compensation to the victim's family. Tinh's older brother, Tran Van Tam (28 years old), was sentenced to 6 months in prison for concealing a crime.

According to the indictment, Tinh and the 22-year-old girl lived together as husband and wife in a rented room in Nha Trang. In the early morning of June 11, 2016, after a drinking session, he was complained about by his girlfriend for coming home late and for giving his phone to a friend to tease her when his "wife" called.

During an argument, Tinh was challenged by his girlfriend, who said, "Go ahead and stab me if you dare," so he lunged at her and stabbed her. Seeing her collapse, Tinh asked his older brother to help take her to the hospital, but the victim died. The autopsy results confirmed that the girl was five months pregnant.

Tịnh was then given 50,000 dong by his brother to return home to Ninh Hoa town, about 50 km from Nha Trang, to hide, but he was unsuccessful.

In court, Tinh expressed remorse and apologized to the victim's family. "A moment of recklessness led to my girlfriend's death, but I loved her very much," he said, hoping the court would give him a lighter sentence so he could return home soon to care for his elderly parents and his disabled brother who were affected by his actions.
