According to the investigation, at noon on January 13, 2016, Truc was driving a BMW and stopped at a red light at the intersection of Le Loi and Pasteur streets (District 1). From behind, Minh rode his motorbike up, honked, and knocked on the car window, asking Truc to move aside so he could turn right. Truc got out of his car, started arguing loudly, and then attacked Minh.
Despite being restrained by many people, Minh left. After driving a short distance down Pasteur Street, he spotted a BMW going in the same direction, so he sped up, kicked the side of the car, and accelerated away. Truc immediately chased after him.
Upon arriving in front of the Rex Hotel (Ben Nghe Ward, District 1), Truc drove his car into Minh's vehicle, causing Minh to fall. The BMW then veered onto the sidewalk and crashed into the hotel wall.
Truc got out of the car and repeatedly kicked Minh in the stomach until the victim fainted. Nearby residents intervened, restrained Truc, and took Minh to the hospital. However, the victim died from a collapsed lung, broken bones, and multiple injuries.
