(Baonghean.vn) - The Vinh City People's Committee is submitting a proposal to the Provincial People's Committee to build four streets to be converted into pedestrian zones.

Recently, many opinions have been expressed regarding the pedestrian zone issue in Vinh City, reflecting the interest of both city residents and tourists in this matter. According to the plan submitted to the Provincial People's Committee, the city will select four streets to be designated as pedestrian zones.

These are the streets: Ho Tung Mau Street (section from Nai Bridge to the beginning of Nguyen Trung Ngan Street); Nguyen Van Cu Street (beginning at the intersection with Ho Tung Mau Street, ending at the intersection with Le Hong Phong Street); Nguyen Trung Ngan Street connecting to Alley No. 2 of Nguyen Trung Ngan Street, ending at the intersection with Nguyen Van Cu Street; and Nguyen Tai Street (beginning at the intersection with Ho Tung Mau Street, ending at the intersection with Nguyen Van Cu Street).

Why were these four streets chosen?

According to Vinh City leaders: While there are many streets in the city that could be developed into pedestrian zones, the city chose these four streets because of their ability to connect central areas to create a chain of nighttime activities, thereby creating a highly attractive tourism product.

In addition, pedestrian streets must ensure conditions regarding security and order, fire safety, environmental hygiene, and harmonize the cultural, economic, social, and living interests of the people, businesses, and residents inside and outside the pedestrian street area.

Furthermore, the streets must ensure reasonable traffic flow, provide parking areas for tourists and residents, minimize disruption to the daily lives of people living in the area, and resolve traffic congestion issues on the roads. The four streets are linked together to form a circle, creating a vibrant, exploratory, and relaxing atmosphere for tourists.

Another advantage of these streets is that they already have some service establishments (clothing stores, restaurants), are located in the city center, surrounded by many hotels and large offices, and are close to Ho Chi Minh Square; parking can be arranged at the Labor Culture House, Giao Te Hotel, and Ho Chi Minh Square.

Current state of the streets

The Ho Tung Mau road (section from Nai Bridge to the beginning of Nguyen Trung Ngan road) has a length of 430 meters; the road width is 16 meters, and the sidewalks are 5 meters wide. The drainage system, sidewalks, street lighting, and asphalt paving have been upgraded and improved.

The route has 40 administrative units, establishments, and business households, including 7 food and beverage service establishments, 4 grocery stores (cakes, candies, milk), 11 fashion businesses, 4 beauty service establishments (hair washing, haircuts, massage, tattoo art...), and 9 other service businesses (artistic paintings, photo studios, phone SIM cards, banners, fresh flowers).

Besides its central location, this is one of the most beautiful streets in Vinh City today, right next to Ho Chi Minh Square, decorated with LED lights, and suitable for combining various services to create a complex. Tourists can both visit the square and participate in activities on the pedestrian street in the surrounding areas. The wide road and sidewalks can accommodate many cultural activities.

Nguyen Van Cu Street is 500 meters long, with a 14-meter wide carriageway and 5-meter wide sidewalks. The street has been upgraded with improved drainage systems, sidewalks, street lighting, and asphalt paving. Photo: Lam Tung

All storefronts are used for commercial activities, primarily catering to entertainment and food and beverage needs. Specifically, there are 35 businesses selling fashion and cosmetics, 4 entertainment services (karaoke, billiards), 2 beauty services (hair washing, haircuts, massage...), and 7 other service businesses (flower shops, delivery services, clinics, decorative items...).

The current condition of Nguyen Trung Ngan road, connecting to alley number 2 of Nguyen Trung Ngan road, with its end point intersecting Nguyen Van Cu road, is that the road is 200 m long, with a road width of 8 m and a sidewalk width of 2 m.

Along the street, there are 28 storefronts, including 17 businesses and the rest being residential houses. Businesses operating here include restaurants, grocery stores, medical supplies shops, karaoke bars, hotels, car washes, electronics stores, barbershops, etc.

The construction of pedestrian streets in Vinh aims to create tourism products and nighttime entertainment services for the people and tourists, contributing to boosting growth and revenue in the tourism sector.Furthermore, it contributes to making Vinh city more beautiful and impressive by introducing and preserving cultural and spiritual values.

Mr. Nguyen Duc An, Deputy Director of the Nghe An Department of Transport, said: Currently, based on the city's proposal, the Department of Transport is submitting these road projects to the Provincial People's Committee and awaiting its approval.
