Vinh City is about to implement a project worth nearly 200 million USD
(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City will implement a major infrastructure investment project funded by the World Bank, expected to be implemented from 2021-2027.
Project "Priority infrastructure and urban development adapting to climate change in Vinh city, Nghe An province"The Prime Minister approved the proposal in early 2021 as a Group A project, the governing body is the People's Committee of Nghe An province, the project owner is the People's Committee of Vinh city. The project is funded by the WB.
According to the project approval decision, the project is proposed to have 4 components. Specifically:
*Component 1: Integrated and connected drainage and sanitation investment. Including integrated improvement of secondary and tertiary sewer lines; Upgrading and renovating roads to increase adaptability
* Component 2: Expanding storage capacity to reduce urban flooding, including: Construction of Hung Hoa 2 Regulating Lake; Construction of Hoi Chua pumping station.
*Component 3: River improvement and public space upgrade. Including: Upgrading and improving Vinh River; Upgrading river surface and public space
*Component 4: Developing systems and capacity to improve urban adaptation. Including: Strengthening the operation of Hung Hoa Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Technical Support.

This is considered the second "huge" infrastructure investment project funded by the World Bank for the city after the Vinh Urban Sub-project was completed and highly appreciated for its effectiveness.
The project's objective is to support the development of integrated infrastructure and climate change adaptation (CC) capacity of Vinh city, contributing to sustainable urban development and CC adaptation, creating momentum for comprehensive socio-economic development for Vinh city and Nghe An province.
The specific objectives are to reduce flooding and adapt to climate change for the city through activities to renovate and upgrade the drainage system; Improve the city's environmental conditions and improve the quality of life of people through renovating and upgrading the wastewater collection and treatment system; Strengthen the connection between the central area and developing areas with weak infrastructure, in order to create momentum for the city to develop through the construction of a number of connecting roads; Strengthen the capacity of urban management to adapt to climate change and control flooding for Vinh city.

The total investment capital of the project is expected to be 194.44 million USD, equivalent to 4,500 billion VND, of which: IBRD loan capital from WB: 130 million USD, equivalent to 3,009 billion VND; Domestic counterpart capital: 64.44 million USD, equivalent to 1,491 billion VND.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Tu - Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee said: When the project is implemented and completed, it will strengthen the synchronous connection of the urban transport system, improve the environment and respond to climate change to improve the quality of life of households in the city center and neighboring areas; Improve drainage capacity, reduce flooding and adapt to climate change for the city through activities to renovate and upgrade the drainage system to improve Vinh River and build Rao Dung drainage pumping station; Improve the city's environmental conditions and improve people's sanitation conditions through renovating and upgrading the wastewater collection and treatment system.
