(Baonghean.vn) - The city will seek the province's opinion on investing in the renovation of sidewalks on pedestrian streets Ho Tung Mau and Nguyen Van Cu; at the same time, it will resurface and upgrade and beautify Nguyen Tai Street, Nguyen Trung Ngan Street and some neighboring streets.

Accordingly, to ensure a clean and cool environment in the pedestrian zone, for about 30 minutes before and after the pedestrian zone opens, Vinh City will organize water spraying to clean the sidewalks and road surfaces of the four streets on both sides.

Along with infrastructure improvements, the city will plant more trees and flower gardens along the pedestrian streets. The plan is for Nguyen Van Cu Street to be a shopping street, while Ho Tung Mau Street will be a space for cultural activities, with areas for browsing, reading, and buying books.

Along with Ho Si Duong Street, which will be a food street specializing in Nghe An-style eel dishes, Nguyen Tai Street and the canal front are expected to be renovated to become spaces for culinary and cultural activities.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong, Head of Block 1, Truong Thi Ward, said: "In order for Nguyen Tai Street to become a food street, Vinh City needs to upgrade and standardize the road surface and sidewalks because many areas are currently eroded and degraded. In addition, a suitable waste collection point needs to be considered; it's unacceptable for people to dump polluting waste right at the intersection of Nguyen Tai Street and Nguyen Van Cu Street as has been the case in the past."

Business owners must ensure cleanliness after evenings when the pedestrian street is in operation.

To meet the sanitation needs of pedestrians, the city will re-evaluate the current state of the toilet system along the four pedestrian streets, paying particular attention to public restrooms at restaurants and cafes along both sides of the pedestrian streets. This will provide guidance to owners on renovating and expanding these facilities to better serve pedestrian needs as visitor numbers increase.

However, according to our survey, most of the restrooms in restaurants, cafes, and eateries on the four pedestrian streets are currently quite small and cramped. Since there is limited land available for expansion, renovating, upgrading, and expanding these restrooms will be difficult.

Regarding food safety, the city also directs businesses, especially food establishments, registering to operate on pedestrian streets to ensure food hygiene and to have a plan to commit to ensuring minimum hygiene requirements for themselves and tourists before, during, and after operating on the pedestrian street.

On the other hand, the city will direct mobile vendors on pedestrian streets to have plans and guidelines for customers on ensuring environmental hygiene; sign contracts with the city's Urban Environment Company to deploy and increase personnel in pedestrian areas to pick up garbage and clean each area; build a cultured and civilized behavior towards the environment, not littering indiscriminately; and ensure that pedestrian streets are cleaned so that they can operate normally during the day.

Regarding environmental sanitation, in addition to mobilizing social resources, the city will have a support mechanism for restaurants to reinvest in sidewalks, and will learn from the experience of large pedestrian streets to arrange additional mobile public sanitation facilities along the street… After the pedestrian street is established, business owners must collect waste around their area and bring it to designated collection points for the environmental company to collect, restoring the area to its original condition the following morning.
