Vinh City is implementing a project to build a new regulating lake.
The city of Vinh is implementing a project to build a regulating lake in Nghi Duc ward, located next to the Vinh - Cua Lo highway, in order to enhance urban infrastructure and improve the living environment for residents.
The People's Committee of Vinh City approved the investment project for the construction of the Nghi Phu and Nghi Duc regulating reservoirs and connecting canals starting in 2023. The project covers an area of 20.7 hectares, with a total investment of approximately 169 billion VND from the Vinh City budget. Of this, 65.5 billion VND is for land clearance and approximately 86 billion VND is for construction costs.

The regulating lake will increase the capacity for rainwater drainage, limiting flooding in the wards of Ha Huy Tap, Nghi Phu, and Nghi Duc, in line with the Vinh City master plan for the period 2030-2050.
The project will complete the transportation network, canals, and drainage systems, contributing to improving the living standards of residents in the expanded Vinh City area. The project includes a walking path around the lake approximately 1.7 km long and 2 meters wide, equipped with lighting and greenery, creating an ecological space and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Recently, the investor, the Vinh City Investment and Construction Project Management Board, prepared a report related to the aforementioned regulating lake project. The regulating lake will be built on an area of 4.5 hectares, of which the water surface area is 4.25 hectares. The lakebed will be leveled with a north-south slope, and the average elevation of the lake bottom will be 2.5 meters to match the lowest water level and ensure that no soil is exposed and no grass grows on the sandbars in the middle of the lake.
The reservoir's storage capacity, according to the hydraulic drainage model of Vinh City, is calculated to be 115,000 m³.3The highest water level is 3.4m, the lowest is 2.29m, and the bottom elevation of the lake is 2.5m. The lake functions to collect surface rainwater, preventing flooding during the rainy season for residential areas in Nghi Phu, Ha Huy Tap, and Nghi Duc wards. In addition, a new double culvert will be constructed connecting to the canal passing through the 115 Hospital, leading water through Nguyen Van To Street to the regulating lake. A new single box culvert will be constructed leading water from the canal passing through Nguyen Phi Y Lan Street to the regulating lake. A new box culvert will also be constructed leading water from the 40m canal from Hung Dong ward through Quan Bau, Ha Huy Tap, and Nghi Phu wards to the regulating lake.
The walking path around the lake will be approximately 1.7 km long and 2 m wide, featuring landscape lighting and greenery. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Mr. Nguyen Sy Dieu, Vice Chairman of the Vinh City People's Committee, stated: "The regulating lake project in Nghi Duc ward is an important project in the sustainable urban infrastructure development of Vinh City, contributing to improving the living environment and creating an ecological space for the community."
