On the first day of the Lunar New Year, large numbers of people visit temples and shrines to pray for a peaceful and happy year. According to many beliefs, this is the day when Buddhists welcome the spirit of Maitreya Bodhisattva, hoping that each Buddhist and citizen will follow the example of compassion and generosity of Maitreya Bodhisattva, contributing to building a better life.

According to the customs of East Asians in general, and Vietnamese people in particular, the majority of people highly value the first day of the year - the first day of Tet (Lunar New Year) - as a sacred day to pray for good fortune and success in life and career.
