By boasting about his extensive connections and ability to secure jobs, Dang Xuan Thanh, a math teacher, defrauded people of 200 million VND.

On June 5th, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Buon Ma Thuot City Police (Dak Lak province) announced the arrest and detention of Mr. Dang Xuan Thanh (born in 1978, residing in Buon Trap town, Krong Ana district) for investigation into the crime of fraud and appropriation of property. Mr. Thanh is currently a mathematics teacher at Krong Ana High School (Krong Ana district).

Previously, authorities received a complaint from Mr. Luong Van Cau (residing in Ea H'leo district, Dak Lak province) alleging that Mr. Thanh had defrauded him of money.

Specifically, on September 16, 2017, Mr. Thanh and Mr. Cau (who had known each other previously) arranged to meet in Ea H'leo district to discuss finding a job for Mr. Cau's son.

Here, Mr. Thanh lied, claiming he knew someone and had relatives working at the Department of Internal Affairs of Dak Lak province and the Provincial People's Committee, thus having the power to influence the recruitment of teachers into the civil service and assign them to schools in Buon Ma Thuot city. Mr. Thanh demanded 200 million VND from Mr. Cau to cover the costs of networking and diplomacy. He also wrote a promissory note promising a recruitment decision around the beginning of 2018, allowing Mr. Cau's son to start working.

However, for a long time, Mr. Cau did not receive the employment decision for his son, and Mr. Thanh had embezzled the money for personal use.
After repeatedly trying to get his money back without success, Mr. Cau filed a complaint against Thanh with the police.

During the investigation, Mr. Thanh confessed to his crime.
