(Baonghean.vn) - Sharing his thoughts at the press conference after the 1-0 victory against U23 Indonesia, Coach Park Hang-seo said that U23 Vietnam was lucky to get 3 points in the second match of Group K of the U23 Asian Cup qualifiers. The South Korean coach surprisingly took the blame upon himself.

Vietnam U23 secured their second victory in the 2020 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers against Indonesia thanks to a single goal by Trieu Viet Hung in the 90+4th minute. The 1-0 win against Indonesia gives Vietnam U23 an advantage in the 2020 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Coach Park Hang-seo stated: "Honestly, I'm not very satisfied with the team's performance today. There are two reasons for my dissatisfaction: firstly, the team play wasn't good, and the players were still playing individually; secondly, the players didn't seem to understand their positions and what they needed to do. If substitutions didn't yield good results (in the case of Dinh Thanh Binh), then the fault lies with me."

Commenting on their upcoming opponent Thailand, the South Korean coach cautiously stated: “We and Thailand both have two wins, but the goal difference is different. Thailand used three defenders against Indonesia, while they used four against Brunei. The quality of the national league will determine the quality of the national team players. This generation of Thai players has excellent height and technique. They have prepared very well for the 2020 U23 Asian Championship, and they are developing to become a top team in Asia.”

Compared to previous generations, the current Vietnam U23 team has had a shorter preparation time. The vast majority of the current U23 players have very little playing time at their clubs, leading to low performance and poor coordination in their gameplay. This is an issue we need to address. Honestly, I'm not satisfied with my own performance today..."

Finally, Coach Park concluded: "There are two things that always go hand in hand in our growth process: things that make us unhappy and pain. To grow, we must overcome these two things. I hope we will clearly demonstrate the spirit of the entire Vietnamese team to everyone in the match against Thailand!"

Regarding Indonesia U23 coach Indra Sjafri, he said: "This was a very interesting and exciting match. We had strategies to counter Vietnam's playing style. It's a pity that the goal conceded came from a set piece."

Of course, we wanted to play offensively, but Vietnam played a very effective counter-attacking style, making it difficult to implement that approach. Overall, we managed to achieve about 80-90% of our objectives.

I wish Vietnam success in qualifying for the 2020 U23 Asian Championship. Losing is certainly not something to be happy about, but football never stops, and we need to look to the future. We will remain committed to our strategy from the U22 Southeast Asian Championship, the U23 Asian Championship qualifiers, and the upcoming SEA Games.”
