A desire to contribute
healthcare for the people
As one of the 29 outstanding young doctors honored by the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union and the Nghe An Provincial Young Doctors Association as "Outstanding Young Doctors Following Uncle Ho's Teachings in 2019," Dr. Nguyen Duy Huy (born in 1986), Secretary of the Youth Union of Nghe An Eye Hospital, is not only a dedicated doctor but also regularly organizes and participates in many charitable and humanitarian activities, demonstrating the medical ethics and compassion of a doctor in the medical field.
Born into a family with a tradition of medical work, the image of the silent, dedicated medical professionals in white coats caring for and treating patients gradually became deeply ingrained in Duy Huy's mind. He doesn't know when it started, but Huy dreamed of following in the footsteps of his grandfather, his father, and other doctors and medical professionals in white coats to heal the sick.
In 2014, after graduating from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and completing his Level I specialist training at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Huy began working at the Cornea Department of Nghe An Eye Hospital.
Throughout his career, Huy has always been deeply concerned about how to bring light to more people, bringing more smiles and hope to patients and their families. Therefore, young doctor Nguyen Duy Huy constantly seeks ways to improve his professional skills, always learning from previous generations to continue perfecting himself.

Every year, Dr. Huy undertakes scientific research projects and technical innovation initiatives at the grassroots level; he also collaborates on many highly effective scientific research projects. For example, in 2017, Nguyen Duy Huy participated in the grassroots-level scientific research project "Evaluating the results of fluconazole 0.02% treatment in fungal corneal ulcers." The application of subconjunctival injection of fluconazole 0.02% helped nearly a hundred patients improve their chances of treating fungal corneal ulcers. This also opened up a new approach and treatment for patients, marking a breakthrough in the comprehensive development of Nghe An Eye Hospital.
Currently, in addition to examining and treating patients, Dr. Huy continues to research new topics.
“The medical profession gives me passion, but also many worries and hardships. However, thinking about bringing light to many patients gives me more motivation to continue fulfilling all my duties. As long as I am young, I must continue to dedicate myself and strive, contributing my small part to caring for the health and protecting the people.”

Besides cultivating and upholding medical ethics, as a young doctor and the Secretary of the Youth Union at the hospital, Duy Huy also regularly participates in volunteer activities for the community. Every year, he and other young doctors at his hospital organize free medical examinations, treatment, and medication distribution for disadvantaged families and policy beneficiaries in remote areas of the province.
From 2017 to the present, Nguyen Duy Huy, along with other youth union members, has organized numerous volunteer programs providing free medical examinations and medication in Mai Son and Nhon Mai communes of Tuong Duong district and Muong Long commune of Ky Son district for over 500 people; performed free surgeries to cure blindness for 24 poor patients; and donated hundreds of warm jackets to underprivileged students.
With his outstanding achievements, Dr. Nguyen Duy Huy has received the title of "Outstanding Emulation Soldier" at the grassroots level for many consecutive years; a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union; a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union...

The patient's smile
to forget about difficulties and hardships
For over 8 years, pharmacist Lo Van Tuyen (born in 1988), a staff member of the Pharmacy - Medical Equipment - Supplies Department and Secretary of the Youth Union of Que Phong District Health Center, has diligently participated in medical examination and treatment programs for impoverished patients. He and his colleagues have repeatedly climbed mountains and crossed streams to reach remote villages, contributing to bringing joy to thousands of poor patients.
As a member of the Thai ethnic group, since childhood, Lo Van Tuyen has harbored the dream of becoming a skilled doctor to help people in mountainous areas raise their awareness of protecting their own health. Tuyen understands that when people in mountainous regions only earn enough to cover the most basic necessities of daily life, access to medical care is a luxury they cannot afford.
After graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Dai Nam University in 2011, Lo Van Tuyen was hired by the Que Phong District Medical Center. Besides quickly grasping the job and offering many ideas to help doctors and nurses use medications more appropriately, safely, and effectively.
Lo Van Tuyen also demonstrated a proactive spirit, working with the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the Que Phong District Medical Center to develop volunteer programs, aiming to solicit support from philanthropists and gather enthusiastic doctors and medical staff to examine, dispense medicine, and treat poor patients.

Lo Van Tuyen has participated in dozens of volunteer trips, helping thousands of poor patients. Some of these volunteer trips took him to the most remote and inaccessible areas of Que Phong district, where healthcare was severely lacking, sometimes requiring three days to reach his designated clinic. Tuyen and his colleagues coordinated with the commune People's Committee and village heads to mobilize and disseminate information to each household so that people had the opportunity to access healthcare," Tuyen said.
"Just seeing their simple smiles makes all our difficulties and hardships disappear. That's why I've always had a heartfelt wish to organize as many free medical check-up and medication programs as possible to bring health and joy to the people."
With passion, responsibility towards his work, a willingness to overcome difficulties and hardships, readiness to accept assignments from the organization, and above all, a love for his profession, pharmacist Lo Van Tuyen has received the title of "Outstanding Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level" for many consecutive years. Most recently, Tuyen was honored by the Provincial Youth Union and the Nghe An Young Doctors Association as "Outstanding Young Doctor Following Uncle Ho's Teachings in 2019".

Speaking with us, Mr. Chu Duc Thai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Provincial Youth Federation - said that in recent times, the campaigns and volunteer programs organized by the Nghe An Provincial Youth Federation and the Young Doctors Association have effectively promoted the role of uniting and gathering young doctors in the area to foster a love for the profession, expertise, and skills; especially promoting the volunteer spirit and initiative of young doctors in activities such as health consultation, care, and free medical examinations and dispensing of medicine to the people.
"Through these activities, young doctors have the opportunity to gain experience and hone their skills, thereby promptly identifying, commending, and honoring outstanding young doctors who are highly skilled professionally and have a spirit of community service."
In the coming period, the activities of the Young Doctors Association will continue to support and encourage young doctors to actively study, improve their expertise, and build the image of exemplary young members of the medical profession in practicing medical ethics as well as participating in social activities.
