Gymnastics kicked off with a successful Gold Medal for the Men's Team

The Vietnamese sports delegation ended the competition day on August 20 with the fourth gold medal, thanks to the victory of the gymnastics team in the men's team event.

In the men's team event, athletes Dang Nam, Dinh Phuong Thanh, Do Vu Hung, Le Thanh Tung, Pham Phuoc Hung and Tran Dinh Vuong competed successfully, winning gold medals with319.05 points.

The host team Malaysia won the Silver Medal with 305.55 points. Thailand received the Bronze Medal with 293.2 points.

The Vietnamese athletes had a bad start when they had to perform in the pommel horse competition. This was considered the most difficult of the six team events.

However, coach Truong Minh Sang’s students did not lose their spirit, they competed even harder in the remaining events. The rings, vault and parallel bars were the events that helped the Vietnamese team break away from their opponents.

At the end of the fifth competition - horizontal bar, the Vietnamese team was almost certain to win the Gold Medal because they only needed 40 more points in the final competition - freestyle gymnastics. With a stable performance, the Vietnamese team successfully defended the Gold Medal for the men's team won in Singapore 2015.

This is a meaningful gold medal, opening the way for gymnastics at the SEA Games in Malaysia this year. Athletes with high achievements in each event on today's competition day will be selected to compete in the finals on the following competition days.

At the 29th SEA Games, gymnastics set a target of winning 3 gold medals out of a total of seven sets of medals.
