2 more people infected with Covid-19, 257 patients nationwide

Patient 256is male, 52 years old, Vietnamese nationality, address in Dinh Du, Van Lam, Hung Yen.

On March 27, this person returned from Russia to Noi Bai airport on flight number SU290 and was transferred to centralized quarantine at the Vinh Phuc Province School of Culture and Arts. Currently, the patient is isolated and treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, branch 2, Hanoi.

Patient 257is a female, 15 years old, Vietnamese nationality, residing in Hoi hamlet, Ha Loi, Me Linh, Hanoi. She is a student, currently staying at home, not going anywhere.

On March 20, patient 243 (a friend of the female student’s father) came to visit. On April 8, the female student showed symptoms of fever and runny nose. On April 9, the patient was tested and the result was positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus a day later.

The patient's father was tested and the result was negative. The patient is currently isolated and treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, branch 2.

Earlier this morning, the Ministry of Health had not recorded any new cases of Covid-19, 35 more people had tested negative 1-2 times and many cases had recovered.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, senior advisor to the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, said that in recent days, the number of new cases has decreased. However, people should not be subjective.

"When seeing the number of cases decrease, people think we have succeeded, but in reality, that is not the case. The epidemic is still hidden and can completely flare up. In the current context, social distancing is very important. Because when there is an infection in the community, we do not know who is infected and we do not know where the source of the disease is," said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu.

The essence of social distancing is to keep sick and healthy people from coming into contact with each other for a certain period of time (at least 14 days). After that time, the infected person's pathogens are no longer able to spread.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu, social distancing is an important measure in preventing the disease from spreading widely in the community and must be implemented seriously and thoroughly everywhere.
