Earlier this morning, the Ministry of Health reported no new Covid-19 cases, 35 more people had tested negative one to two times, and many cases had recovered.

Associate Professor Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, and senior advisor to the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, said that the number of new cases has decreased in recent days. However, people should not be complacent.

"When people see the number of cases decreasing, they think we've succeeded, but that's not actually the case. The epidemic is silently spreading and could easily flare up again. In the current context, social distancing is crucial. Because, when there are community transmissions, we don't know who is infected and we don't know where the source of the disease is," said Associate Professor Tran Dac Phu.

The essence of social distancing is to prevent contact between sick and healthy people for a certain period of time (at least 14 days). After that time, the pathogens from an infected person are no longer able to spread.

According to Associate Professor Tran Dac Phu, social distancing is a crucial measure in preventing the widespread transmission of infectious diseases in the community and must be implemented seriously and thoroughly everywhere.
