Five more communes in Nghe An province have reported cases of African swine fever.
(Baonghean.vn) - Local authorities are urgently destroying infected pigs and spraying disinfectants along all roads in the outbreak area.
According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, on June 13th, five more communes in Nghe An province tested positive for African swine fever: Hoa Thanh (Yen Thanh district), Nghi Lien (Vinh City), Tri Le (Que Phong district), Nhan Son (Do Luong district), and Mai Son (Tuong Duong district). In addition, two samples tested positive at the former outbreak sites of Phu Thanh (Yen Thanh district) and Hung Tien (Hung Nguyen district).

On the morning of June 14, 2019, the Vinh City Livestock and Veterinary Station, in coordination with the Nghi Lien commune authorities, organized the destruction of a herd of pigs infected with African swine fever at the wild boar breeding farm of Mr. Ngo Ba Phuong's family in Hamlet 10.
Mr. Phuong's farm has 17 wild boars, including 11 sows, 1 boar, and 5 piglets, with a total weight of approximately 1,100 kg.
To prevent the spread of the disease, Nghi Lien commune has set up two checkpoints and used 300 kg of lime powder to disinfect and prevent the transportation of pigs in and out of the affected area. At the same time, the commune is requesting the district veterinary station to provide an additional 100 liters of disinfectant chemicals for disinfection throughout the commune.
Hoa Thanh commune became the 13th locality in Yen Thanh district to experience an outbreak of African swine fever on June 13th. On the morning of June 14th, Yen Thanh district authorities dispatched officials to the area to coordinate with Hoa Thanh commune in implementing disease prevention and control measures according to the district and commune's response plan.

Currently, the commune is deploying disinfectant spraying on all roads in the outbreak area and destroying two pigs belonging to Ms. Hoang Thi Tri's family. At the same time, they are using the commune's public address system to inform residents that African swine fever has appeared in the area.

We have set up three main quarantine checkpoints on National Highway 7B and the inter-communal road, in addition to three auxiliary checkpoints at the intersections leading to the outbreak area in Phan Dinh Phung hamlet. From the evening of June 13th, the commune banned all pig slaughtering activities in the area.

On June 13th, African swine fever also occurred in Nhan Son commune, Do Luong district; Tri Le commune, Que Phong district; and Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong district.
Thus, currently, Do Luong district has 3 communes experiencing outbreaks: Trung Son, Da Son, and Nhan Son. Que Phong district has 2 communes experiencing outbreaks: Que Son and Tri Le. Tuong Duong district has 2 communes experiencing outbreaks: Luong Minh and Mai Son.
Thus, from March 13, 2019 to the present, African swine fever has occurred in 922 households in 238 hamlets across 95 communes and 18 districts, cities, and towns in Nghe An province. A total of 3,543 infected pigs have been culled, with a total weight of 150,756 kg.
