Nguyen Phu Nguyen is a player from the same generation as Hoang Van Khanh, Ho Tuan Tai, etc. The midfielder from Nam Dan was a key player for SLNA's youth teams, from U13 to U21. Nguyen Phu Nguyen's most impressive achievement was winning the 2012 National U17 Championship Finals, a tournament in which he was always a regular in the starting lineup.
Unfortunately, since joining the first team, Nguyen Phu Nguyen has received little playing time from the SLNA coaching staff. Various injuries have prevented the 25-year-old from competing for a position with his teammates. Last season, Nguyen Phu Nguyen even had to play for Hai Phong on loan.
According to statistics, in 5 seasons playing for SLNA and Hai Phong (2016 - 2020), Nguyen Phu Nguyen played a total of 540 minutes and scored 1 goal in the V.League. In the 2020 season alone, the midfielder from Nam Dan only had a mere 71 minutes on the field.
Objectively speaking, Nguyen Phu Nguyen is a versatile player capable of playing in many different positions. Besides his preferred position as a right winger, Nguyen Phu Nguyen also performs well as a left winger and a central midfielder whenever assigned by the coaching staff.
Thus, Nguyen Phu Nguyen is the fourth player, after Ho Tuan Tai, Felipe Martins, and Nguyen Quang Tinh, to officially say goodbye to the Nghe An team.
